  1. Just wanted to see if the Food and Wine Festival this weekend at the National Harbor is worth the admission price. It's the 3rd year, so curious if anyone has any insight on the event in past years! Thanks! www.foodandwinenh.com/about.html
  2. I wanted to *love* it, but just liked it. Why? Well, I got the Cuban Burger (love the whole concept of that). Thought the burger was a bit dry and lacking in flavor, you couldn't really taste the pork at all, and the bun wasn't pressed and crisp like stated. That being said, I love the whole "ham and swiss on a burger." Brought me back to the ol' Double R Bar back in the day at Roy Rogers (no, I'm not comparing the quality of burger to Roys, but it reminded me of it in concept!). Anyway, dining partner liked the Tuna Burger, as did I.....and we both liked the ff's. Personally, a bit pricey.....it wasn't really clear what was included for the $8.99 box set (and the Tuna and Cuban were not). Will I try it again? Sure...always give another chance to a new place.
  3. The address is: 1140 Connecticut Ave., N.W., in Washington, DC. (between L & M Street) By "walking distance," I mean we just want to park once! So, a couple blocks is fine, closer the better (in case it's cold!). For how much we want to spend, I'd say less than $20 per entree. Atmosphere is important.....a lively vibe. Thanks!
  4. Looking for a restaurant that is within walking distance to the DC Improv. Ideally, a fun, upbeat atmosphere, as it's a group of girls out for a bachelorette party. Suggestions??? [Merged with above posts - DR]
  5. Yes, Somchet was the teacher, and she was great!!!!
  6. I got a gift certificate for L'Academie de Cuisine, and can't decide what class/classes to take! I've only taken the Thai cooking class (and loved it!), and would love suggestions on classes that you have loved, as well. Open to all types of cuisine/cooking/baking,etc. Thank you!
  7. I tried Pho An last week, too. I haven't experienced much Pho before, so you could say I'm relatively new to this yummy experience! Compared to the 2 or 3 other bowls of Pho I've eaten before, this one wasn't my favorite. The star anise taste overpowered the broth, I thought. And, the spring rolls were mediocre. Reading back to Pho posts dating back to 2005, I am curious for any updates anyone has for MD Pho/Vietnamese joints. I work in Silver Spring and make the trip up Rt.29 to Columbia (where I live) daily. Love some suggestions/comments about places around the area! I can say that Pho Dat Thanh in Columbia is really good for Pho and other traditional Vietnamese food....love it! Thank you!
  8. Which chicken do you get extra spicy?? The kabob? (I've only tried the kabobs....chicken, beef, and kofta, all good!)
  9. We ate at the Annapolis Yin Yankee one time and was pretty impressed (and wasn't expecting to be). I, unfortunately, was pregnant at the time, so I didn't eat any of the sushi, but my husband proclaimed a piece of Salmon Sashimi to be one of the best he's ever had. I also remember our server being extremely knowledgabout and passionate about the food and menu. Hope that's the case with the Bethesda location!!
  10. Does anyone know if the Yin Yankee in Bethesda is open yet? It's supposed to be on Fairmont.....and was supposed to open this past Fall, but I haven't heard anything (or driven by there lately). Thanks!
  11. That's my problem with RW, too. I TRY to stick with the $30.07 menu, but then you see something that sounds yummy on the normal menu that's not offered on the RW menu.....and, well....you get the idea! Went to Ceiba last night, and while the RW menu included all their entrees (with an extra charge for 2 of them, I believe), they were really lacking in the app and dessert department, in my opinion. They offered only salads and soup, plus a shrimp ceviche for their app choices. Not too elaborate. The dessert list was 3 or 4, but didn't include their "signature" Churros with Mexican Hot Chocolate. That being said.....I really enjoyed my entire meal (even though I spent more than anticipated....but I should've known I would!). The Scallops were excellent (and what WAS that creamy puree they sat atop? SO good), the Yellowtail Ceviche with Coconut Milk and Cashews was nice and spicy and fresh, and the Churros were yummy. A friend ordered the Empanadas, another ordered the Fried Oysters....both were really tasty! (And, of course, excellent Mojitos!) Heading to Cordoroy on Saturday night....what should I get???
  12. So, I just discovered Bahn Mi.......YUM! I had one at a tiny grocery/carryout place on Georgia in Wheaton. I have no idea what I ate (I know it had pork in it that was yummy and some kind of chewy thing that I didn't care for much). Where are the best places for Bahn Mi and what should I order? (I work in Silver Spring.....live in Columbia) Thanks! --- [The following posts have been split into separate threads: Nhu Lan (synaesthesia) Pho Sai Gon & Grill (synaesthesia) Saigonese (dwt) Banh Mi SO 1 (V.H.)
