  1. Eve's doing one that looked mighty fine as a special in the Bistro.
  2. It looks on their site like they'll be opening with Cannoli flavor. Yum. I'm just waiting for the day when she brings back Texas Sheet Cake. MMMMMM
  3. I was at the restaurant at the same time as the scallop writer and had the same thing happen to me. The difference was that the people who received them near me were significantly younger -- they looked to be about 20 and were only drinking water. My server pulled the same line about pre-reserving scallops on their Web site. I can only assume that he meant through opentable.com, since I know that Corduroy doesn't really have a site. Anyhow, I ended up enjoying the pork belly and striped bass. The food was a pleasure as usual, but I would appreciate honesty from a restaurant that I frequent and never hesitate to recommend to others.
  4. Vegetate just emailed out the RW menu: First Course Wild Mushroom Trio wild mushroom baba, tempura oyster mushroom, and enoki mushroom salad or Smokey Tomato Bisque with a balsamic reduction and grilled croustade Second Course White Bean Cassoulet with roasted turnips and rutabaga, smoked Portobello mushrooms, and braised tofu-topped with toasted bread crumbs and a grainy mustard aioli or Truffled Crispy Fingerling Potatoes and Roasted Wild Mushrooms with braised leeks, porcini vinaigrette, and arugula salad Third Course Dark Chocolate Cake with caramel "creme anglaise" and raspberry coulis topped with shaved chocolate or Pineapple and Dried Cherry Fruit Crisp with oatmeal crumbs and coconut sorbet
  5. There are WAY too many options this year. After much thought, we've narrowed to these: Monday- lunch at Sette Bello, dinner at Corduroy Tuesday - Acadiana dinner Wednesday - recovery Thursday - Poste dinner Friday - lunch at Kinkead's, dinner at DC Coast Saturday - Rasika dinner Sunday - Notti Bianche dinner I'll post reviews/follow-ups after the gluttony.
  6. With Magnolia, Billy's, Cupcake Cafe and Buttercup Bake Shop (my personal favorite), New York is a veritable cupcake wonderland. Los Angeles does its fair share of cupcake vending with Toast, Joan's on Third, Clementine and Sprinkles. Now, if only we could entice just one of those places to set up shop here in town... (Insert some pun about being frosted that there aren't better options.)
  7. The gnocchi at Restaurant Eve right now is exceptional. Loved the phyllo-wrapped soft shell crab at Corduroy Shrimp and Grits and donuts at Colorado Kitchen's brunch That's all I can manage to type without getting too hungry.
  8. Washingtonpost.com does include urls to restaurants (check this out: http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?n...earchLocation=), but a database of 1700 restaurants makes it difficult to keep up with every restaurant's site.
  9. Oh, finally a mention of Wheatberry. You have to give me the information. I have heard about it, but didn't know where to look or how to get ahold of it. As for cupcakes, I think that, besides b&w, Balducci's offers some good ones. I was disappointed by those at Jettie's last week.
  10. If you're willing to venture a bit off the strip, I would highly recommend Quinta Belina on Flamingo. It's tucked into a strip mall and not much in the ambiance department, but the food is delicious Mexican. My favorite dishes were the squash blossom quesadilla (amazing), the spicy appetizer meatballs and the churros. If you stay on the strip, I am a huge fan of Prime in the Bellagio and of Bouchon in the Venetian for breakfast. Enjoy your trip!
