  1. Another good option not mentioned is Tommy Bahama in Market Commons. Yes, a chain and "concept", but the food is very good. Service is hit or miss, and it's somewhat overpriced, but I'd recommend TB over any of the Broadway at the Beach places. http://www.tommybahama.com/TBG/Stores_Restaurants/Myrtle_Beach.jsp There are several restaurants in Market Commons, I recommend avoiding all of them. Travinia was horrible, as was Nacho Hippo. I've had better tacos at Taco Bell. A nearby gem is Rivertown Bistro in Conway. Definitely worth the drive. http://rivertownbistro.com/
  2. My favorite chicken parm is at That's Amore in Rockville. It's got a really nice crispy breading, and just the right amount of chunky tomato sauce. It often tends to be a touch over cooked, but its such comfort food, I still order it every time. Haven't tried the parm at Maggaianos, but their Saltimoboca is really good - more for the flavor than the quality of the chicken. But still good.
  3. Also went to Dino over the weekend. No complaints about the food, but the service was horrible. Our waiter was totally incompetent, not that we saw much of him (but we did get a lovely view of his gray briefs sticking out of the back of his pants.). Luckily another waitress stopped by our table several times to check on us and do our waiters job. (not sure her name, but she was a very nice friendly blonde girl). Even the busboy/food runner pitched in and brought out the dessert menus. It wasn't just us, the table next to us sat there for 15 minutes before he came over to their table for the first time for drink orders. Not sure if this is the same new guy mentioned above, (we were never told his name), but if so he needs alot more training.
  4. I can't go to NY without a stop at Five Napkin Burger. Best burger I've ever ate - the original with caramelized onions, gruyere cheese, rosemary aioli...OMG, it's amazing. Their Mac&Cheese is also pretty damn good too.
  5. I've noticed the new fries have less salt now compared to when they debuted. I guess all the complaining had them hold back - at least at the one I regularly go to. Lately they need more salt! They should have used sister-restaurant Arby's old "homestyle" fries. They were the best! Unfortunately, Arbys no longer offers them.
  6. I went to the new Rockville location on Friday night. The food was consistent with the Chinatown location. We had the sliders for an app. They were fine, but honestly I think the ones at Founding Farmers are much better (and bigger). For an entree, we split a meat pizza. It was very good but extremely spicy. The crust was crispy but not burned, although I thought the pizza could use more sauce. For dessert, we had the coffee & doughnuts. Those were sooo good, especially the outside layer. Just the right amount of cinnamon & powder sugar over a freshly fried crispy exterior. They are addictive! The biggest issue was the service. I realize they have only been open a week, but dinner took over 2 hours!! It was sooo slow. The waiter had no idea how to multi-task. He'd go to one table, then disappear, then go back to them, then go on to the next table. It was about 15-20 minutes between his table rotations. There were 4-5 different "runners" that just seemed to be hanging around waiting to reset tables when people left. None of them would refill water (we had to ask the waiter) and empty plates sat on the table until the waiter took them. The host staff were also sitting parties of 2 at tables for 4-6, when there were empty tables for 2, and people waiting in the lobby. What a mess! If they can work out the service issues, I think this place will finally lift the curse of the location. Until then I'm going to wait awhile before going back.
  7. Went to NYC last weekend, did alot of eating! Print. Hells Kitchen, http://printrestaurant.com/ Just had brunch, so hard to judge, but no complaints. The bacon-maple cinammon roll was the highlight. It's located near the car dealers, so its a bit of a walk. Read good reviews online, so will want to try this place out for dinner another time. Hell's Kitchen, http://www.hellskitchen-nyc.com/ "Progressive Mexican". Very good, nothing execptional. I had a roasted chicken quesadilla, quite tasty. Partner had Halibut. The pork shank had rave reviews online and I noticed several other patrons ordering it. Max Brenner, Union Square, http://www.maxbrenner.com/ Touristy type place. I think Coco Sala in DC does a better job, but Max's chocolate is better. If you stick to the chocolate-based menu items, it's good. Other items not so much. The Cinnamon Apple White Chocolate French Toast struck a good balance - not overly sweet. A Turkey Club sandwich was dismal. However, the Peanut Butter Euporia Sundae was worth the trip. Five Napkin Burger, Hells Kitchen, http://www.5napkinburger.com Best meal of the trip. This burger makes Rays Hellburger forgettable. The original 5-napkin burger has caramelized onions, gruyere cheese, and rosemary aioli. Amazing flavor, best burger I ever ate. Perfectly cooked, the rosemary isn't too overpowering, just the right amout of juicyness. And it wasn't drowned in black pepper like every burger place in DC. I've had better fries, but the burger was so good I hardly noticed. This place is going to be a must on future visits. (Make a reservation, the place is apparently always packed. And very very noisy.) And they now feature Dogfish Head Brewery beer. --- Zabar's (dcs)
  8. I've only been to Againn once so far, but had no issues with the service. If anything, they went out of their way to make sure everything was good - complete with the manager stopping by the table and "forcing" comment cards. As far as opentable - just email them and explain what happened. I use opentable all the time and about 25% of the time restaurants mark as no-show. I don't know if they are trying to get out of paying a fee, or if it's an oversight on behalf of the host ... but opentable is usually very good about correcting it.
  9. I went to Filomena's Saturday night. The place was packed - even with a reservation, we had to wait 15 minutes. However, the service and pacing was good and even with 4 courses, we were in/out in about 1.5 hour. The food is consistently good, but nothing to rave about. The big portions (even on the restaurant week menu) make the value all the better - even had leftover cake to take home! ;o)
  10. I tried the new Rockville location this weekend. It was practically empty at 1pm on Saturday afternoon - not a good sign! But I enjoyed it and hope it makes out. We weren't too adventurous with our food selections, but everything was good. I had a burger - it was cooked to order and wasn't overly seasoned. The chips (fries) were very good too. My friend had the Fish&Chips. He said the portion was rather small, but the fish wasn't greasy. For dessert we shared the Bannoffee Pie - a chocolate banana pie in a jar. It was excellent, although the portion was very small and hard to eat out of the jar. The service was good, but the staff still seems new and inexperienced. The manager and waiter were both coming around looking for comments - including passing comment cards and pens to everyone at the table. The waiter said they have already made changes to the menu based on comments and more to come. My only complaint would be the value - it was rather pricey and portion sizes are small. But it's a welcome addition to Rockville Pike. It will be interesting to see how it makes out, especially with Matchbox opening a few blocks north.
  11. I agree. When I go here, my other dining options are usually Chicken Out, Five Guys, Corner Bakery, etc. The place has that look and atmosphere. But the prices are comparable to nice places in Bethesda, yet I don't consider Bobby's when I want to have a nice dinner. It's about the atmosphere and service and Bobby's has more of the "let's just get something to eat quick" feel to it. The menu, food and prices don't match with the physical restaurant. Semi-off-topic - I was in Ocean CIty this past weekend and went to Micky Fins. The place was taken over by the guy that ran Marlin Moon Grille - often recommended on foodie boards as the best crab cake in OC. The two crabcake dinner (huge - 5 or 6oz) was market priced at $24. Bobby's charges $32 for similar.
  12. I went the other day for lunch and must say, the burgers here are excellent. I've tried BGR and Urban Burger based on recommendations on this board, and all were a disappointment. Bobby's was cooked perfect, juicy, and had just the right amount of seasoning and char. BGR and Urban both taste overwhelmingly of pepper. The fries are good too. And the "server" working the floor was great too. My long-standing complaint about Bobby's is it's very expensive for counter-food/sandwiches. I understand you pay for quality, but if I'm spending $15-20+/person, I'd rather go to a "real" restaurant. This time, I was further turned off by the nasty sign posted regarding Groupon use. A simple "one coupon per table" would suffice, not a 3/4 page tirade. Don't offer coupon deals if you are going to give customers an attitute about using them. I wasn't even using a Groupon and the attitude made me not want to return.
  13. I go there for lunch every two months or so - it's very consistent and always crowded.
