  1. One more thing: my cousin asked about Firefly (I assume someone recommended it to her). I haven't been since the DR dinner many, many years ago. Is it still good?
  2. I'll send them both ideas and see what they say. My parents are coming from Columbia by car, though, and sometimes have trouble navigating the city. They'd likely be going around the earliest seating of the night, which might help.
  3. Thanks, Don - that hadn't crossed my mind, but it makes sense (and would certainly be easier to get into than, say, Le Diplomate!).
  4. Hello friends, My cousin will be in town from Florida this weekend with her husband and 2 kids (tween-ish). If I recall, she's not big on seafood, and she's suggested American or Italian to suit the kids' palates. Her husband is a big steak-and-potatoes kind of guy. They're staying around 15th and Mass. We already have plans to take them to Jack Rose on Friday (at her husband's request), but my parents are looking for a relatively quiet and accessible place (easy parking?) for Saturday. Any ideas? Thanks!
  5. Hi Mallory! I'm just now seeing this, but are any manager positions still open? (Inquiring for a friend) Thanks! Martha
  6. Speaking for myself - maniacal toddler with no off switch. Not that I posted often, but I had probably read every word written until 7/15/08. I miss it. Hopefully you all will still be here in 16 1/2 years.
  7. Click here for a write-up of Jason at New Heights. Jason is a close friend of ours. Glad to see he's getting some well-deserved recognition. He's mad talented.
  8. Tryst sells their House Blend (made from Counter Culture beans). Open City might, too - not positive.
  9. Constantine Stavropoulos' new venture across from Cafe St. Ex: click. Full disclosure: I am married to the GM of the Diner. We're all really excited about this project! If you are too (and live in Dupont Circle/ANC 2B), we'd love to have your support at tonight's meeting.
  10. For me it's a temporary safety issue- I'm 39 weeks pregnant. Told hubby to order my burger (grilled, cave-aged Amish cheddar, and bacon) medium well and secretly hoped for slightly closer to medium. My burger (announced as "well done" by the server) was just shy of medium well and PERFECT- juicy and delicious and just how I'd wanted it. I am in love with this place. With the corn, watermelon, and pitcher of root beer I was in summertime heaven.
  11. Ah- Cork and Bar Pilar- good ideas! We were worried that by that point (6-ish by the time we got anywhere else) we'd have a wait, given that it was Father's Day, but we had no trouble finding a table at Red Rocks and enjoyed our meal.
  12. Unfortunately, this method did not work for me, as I called on Sunday afternoon and got a message confirming their Sunday hours (5 - 9 pm). My Dad came up from Columbia for our Father's Day dinner at CK, only to find the "Closed" sign on the door at 5:45. Gillian- we love you and your restaurant, but a simple request: please leave a message on your answering machine when you will be closed during normal hours.
  13. Thanks Twinsdaddy! Argia's (or possibly Pilin) sounds just what I was looking for. Then again, vegetarian's husband loves all things Irish...
