Super glad that I waltzed in on a late Saturday night and got someone's canceled reservation about 8 months ago. #HipsterCred

Saw this photo on line last night - estimated over 100 people in line.

It's been like that. Was worse over the weekend (I live close.)

There's a lot of spillover into my regular 11th Street places. Good for them, makes it hard for me to get a seat some places!

I'm not trying to egg anyone on, but roe, roe, roe your boat.

Sometimes I have the intelligence of a five-year-old.

We tried to go the Friday after Thanksgiving, thinking it might be a shorter line. Nope.

Wow. I got there at 5:30 over the summer (before Bon Appetit) with a party of four and got in for the first seating.

Insane deliciousness and hospitality!  So grateful to dine at Bad Saint!  On March 4, 2017, I enjoyed the following:

  • Perfect beginning with winter radishes!
  • VIGAN EMPANADA, beef, egg, bean sprouts
  • ADOBONG HIPON, prawns, black garlic, cilantro
  • SITAW, chinese long beans, thai chilies, lime leaf
  • TURON

Got there at 4 last Saturday, we ended up being the last couple to be seated in the first sitting.

Good cocktails, good wine list, including one of the few pet-nats I have seen around here.

I spent a few weeks in the Philippines a few years ago and have to admit that I wasn't really impressed by the food at the time, especially compared with what was available in neighboring countries. This time I really liked what I tried - bitter melon, banana hearts, the tuna, and the pork sausages. The flavors are unusually and (as far as I can tell) very authentic. Nice level of spice. The bitter melon and tuna were my favourites, the banana hearts my least - a cold appetizer, it lacked a little kick and was just a little too creamy.

That said, the line is a hassle, the service can be a little slow, and the seats uncomfortable. In the words of Danny Glover, "I'm getting too old for this sh!t".The food was great, and I would happily go back if I could pay a little more for a little more comfort. But this is a young man's game...

3 stars from the NY Times (Pete Wells)

On August 29, in an article titled "Wish List for New Restaurants,"  Wells mentions Bad Saint as the type of restaurant he would like to see more of, instead of more and more restaurants opened by the established power players "at the top of the ladder." Interesting piece.

More places that don't take reservations, where you have to stand on line to get a table? No thanks.

Independent restaurants--or independent concepts backed by larger groups--don't necessarily refuse to take reservations.  I could have put this in News and Media, and perhaps Don would prefer it there.

I knew what you meant. Was just being snarky.
