DonRocks
An early glimpse of the thousand-yard stare: I didn't think I liked "Full Metal Jacket," but that's because I'd only seen it in its entirety in 1987; I've since seen many clips of the "first part" - in Parris Island, SC. Thirty-years of distance, and some hard study of Stanley Kubrick (which includes a recent viewing of the legendary 1957 Kubrick work, "Paths of Glory"), has made me fully appreciate this film as one of the great masterpieces in the war genre. It is very, very difficult to watch - necessarily difficult. A late glimpse of the thousand-yard stare:
