I've talked with Sudhir about possible dates for this event, and any of these six evenings work with him. The best way I can think of to decide is, at least initially, is with a poll to choose a plurality-approved date. We can discuss it in this thread as well. One vote per member, but you can choose multiple dates with that one vote - results to be combined with discussion to come up with a binding date. Please only vote if you know you can come - payment will most likely be taken via PayPal although I haven't discussed that with Sudhir yet. As always, 100% of the money will go to the restaurant, with no kickbacks on this end.

Guests, it's perfectly fine to become a member for the purposes of attending this dinner.

At your service,

Rocks.

I voted for Oct. 7th (Sunday), but I can come to any of them. My wife, who really wants to come, is not available on 9/30 or 10/2. I like Sunday because it precludes the possibility of last-minute work glitches.
I could be wrong but isn't Oct. 7 Presidents Day or something weekend?

Oct. 9 seems like a good day B)

:P

Unless I'm missing something, once you vote, you are locked out from voting again or changing your vote.

Blame the software - Daniel, I have your other dates noted in your PM, so don't worry about sheer numbers in this poll. Just trying to get an idea here...

Sudhir, can you write me with pricing and how many people you can accomodate on any given evening? (Can you guys tell I'm busy? )

Hi Don

The restaurant seats 62 and can be increased to 66 quite comfortably. We could do the following menu for $65 (including tips and tax). The menu needs some fine tuning still and I welcome any suggestions. If there is a demand for something which people do not see on the menu and were looking forward to, I will try to work that in.

IG NITE DINNER

First course

Mirchi Pakora

Chicken Kali Mirch kabab

Lamb Parsi cutlet

Chili Onion Kulcha

Second course

Shrimp Balchao

Mussel Vendiam

Meen Kozhambu

Aloo Chokha

Rice and bread

Third course

Mirchi Gosht

Pork Vindaloo

Green Chili Chicken

Mirchi Ka Salan

Tamatar Launji

Rice and bread

Dessert

Spicy Modak

(Steamed rice dumpling stuffed with kali mirchi, khoya & jaggery)

Chutneys

Green Chili

Garlic & Red Chili

Onion

Coconut

Pickles

Mango

Jalapeno

I can not tell, are ALL of these dishes very spicy or are some plain, some spicy and some very spicy? While I love spicy food, I hope we can have a mixture with this many courses.

All the dishes are spicy but accompanied with rice, bread and raita to cool off the effect. On their own each dish has a pronounced spice content since that is what the Event is about.

This is the first time I've thought about it - I guess maybe 6:30 if it's Sunday?

We could start even earlier on a Sunday if that is what everybody wants so that people will not have trouble getting to work on Monday. I can be pretty flexible on the timing for Sunday. The only thing I would like to do in a hurry is to post up a notice and blocking that date for reservations. If we can fill up the house to fifty people I could even close the restaurant for anybody else and make it into a totally private DR affair. We have a large number of Sunday regulars and I would like them to know in advance of what is happening and some of them might become future DR members.

Okay, well I guess I have to make a call, so Sunday, October 7th it is. (Daniel, here's hoping for rain so you can join). Let's say 6:30 for now, with the possibility of making it 6:00 if enough people want to do that.

So now, I need to know who's coming. Please send me a PM and let me know, and I"ll maintain a list. My guess is that each person can bring two guests, perhaps even more, but please ask me first.

I'll need to collect cash through PayPal, and I need to figure out how I don't get hit with the fees like I did with the Elio Martinez fundraiser. Don't send the PayPal payment just yet, but look for the notice to come out later this week. If you need to cancel, please do it a week in advance so Sudhir has plenty of time to plan. I've never done this before, so if there's anything else I need to do, let me know. (HillValley? Help!)

Please let me know ASAP (meaning, today, if possible, and I'll keep a running list of the attendees, and will send out PayPal notices shortly).

Cheers,

Rocks.
