Joe Riley
I had the pleasure of having dinner last night at Bourbon/Glover Park with Eddie Russell, Master Distiller at Wild Turkey, and the fun part of the evening for me was enjoying some of Owen Thompson's outstanding cocktails as expertly prepared by Patrick Owens: Mississippi Punch 2 Part Cognac 1 Part Bourbon 1 Part Jamaican Rum 1/2 Part Lemon Juice 1/2 Part Simple Syrup Garnish with fresh grated nutmeg Brown Derby Variation 1.5 oz Wild Turkey Honey Liqueur .75 oz Fresh Grapefruit juice .5 oz Domain de Canton Ginger Liqueur Manhattan (Last Nights Version) 4:1 Ratio of Wild Turkey Rare Breed to Carpano Antica Formulae Sweet Vermouth with a dash of Fee Brother's Whiskey Barrel bitters. Lastly, there was an cocktail called the Los Rudos (made with Del Maguey Mezcal). Here is a video of Owen making the drink with the recipe: Los Rudos video All just so, so good, immensely satisfying. Bourbon really is one hell of a great cocktail base. Obviously, different ages and proofs change these cocktails, but really, you can get an outstanding Bourbon for very little money that can be incredibly versatile.
