DonRocks
I had my first bit of sechuan button tonight (see Bonnie Benwick's story here), and it was about the craziest thing I've ever eaten. Some writers talk about "finish" in certain wines as lasting several minutes, and honestly I've never quite understood what that meant. But this thing? It really DOES last for several minutes, and even intensifies during the process. Bonnie's description, right down to the forced salivation (sounds like some porn variant), mirrors my own. The video is hilarious to me, because I went through similar permutations this evening. You wonder if you might die from tasting the sechuan button, but it's hilariously fun to try. Cheers, Rocks. Luckily, I was smart enough to spit it out after 10 seconds and NOT SWALLOW it. It took gargling with a large glass of milk to make it go away. It is not delicious. It is annoying. It is exactly as Barton described, particularly the part about attaching a 9 volt battery to your tongue.
synaesthesia
When during the meal did you get it? What ticked me off was the fact that when I tried one, I got it at the very start of our meal. Geez... thanks for singeing my tastebuds before I get to taste anything else.
