You don't need monster skills to come along to one of these. Just look at us - a bunch of regular folks! All you need is a bit of patience, enough dexterity not to injure yourself, and hopefully a willingness to chat a bit with whomever you're standing next to. That might be one of us, or the other dozen-and-change folks who show up from I-don't-know-where.

And it's strangely satisfying. Last call for this evening!

OK, time for the next signup has arrived.

I didn't book far enough ahead, and the lead time is longer than ever, so this month's is split between two dates:

Thurs 9/30 (6 spots)

Mon 10/4 (3 spots)

I can do either (and both, if we need the spots filled).

Who's in?

Still 2 open spots for Thursday - can anyone help?

If you haven't gone before, I guarantee that not only will you have a great time, and walk out with that warm feeling inside, you'll be fighting for a spot next month. Way better than writing a check (though you can do that too...)

Thurs 9/30 (6 spots)

1. DanielK

2. +1

3. skipper10

4. ol_ironstomach

5. sparkycom

6.

Mon 10/4 (3 spots)

1. Goldenticket

2. laniloa

3. Rovers2000

By the end of the week, I need to give back whatever spots we can't fill for next Thursday. Please come help.

As a last minute plea, it looks like I'm going to lose a battle to reschedule a proposed meeting that I can't miss today that will last until 6 :( . If there is anyone here that can pick up my spot, I would greatly appreciate it. Otherwise, I will do my best to get there, even if a bit late.

I'm pretty sure sparkycom is planning to be there, so she can fill in for you.

Those of you who went last night-did you deal with any black radishes? They got about 30 bunches from Dupont on Sunday and I am curious to know what they did with them.

No - it was (almost) all tomatoes all night, with a little bit of bibb lettuce and greens thrown in for good measure. They might just use the radishes directly in salads which they would prepare during the morning shifts.

Normally I would love this, but for your sake I hope they had actually sharpened the knives before shift...

I remember about 6 months ago we were breaking down these huge raw potatoes, with a knife that wasn't much sharper than a spork.

Serrated knives are a wonderful thing :(

I actually left DCCK with blisters from the "knives" (using that term loosely as they were so dull) after that session :(

The last DR.com night at DCCK was early October, so it seems like forever since I was putting the call out, but here we go again! As usual, putting out the request 2 weeks before the date, and will give back any unclaimed spots 1 week before.

Next session is Monday 11/22, 5p-8p. That's the Monday before Thanksgiving, so the needs are even greater than usual.

Who's with me? 10 total spots available.

Can you see who has the other 20 spots that night? We've got 2 on the waitlist, and while the computer tells me I can't have 2 more spots, maybe the scheduler person (still Carolyn?) can tell you if it's ok that we bring 12...

I think 12 will be ok, but I'll check with Carolyn tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing all of you!

Thanks to everyone who volunteered tonight! We had a full 12, in spite of a last minute flat tire - Rissa's surprise appearance with a friend made sure we were well-represented. Even though it was a packed house with a couple of other large groups, there were plenty of carrots, radishes, and peppers to be chopped :)

And special thanks to Sparkycom and the Fresh Start Catering crew for our special break snacks - and SHARP knives!

Arrrgh, I hate to be the one that bails, but when I walked out of the house at 4:15, and saw that flat tire, I knew that it was over. Glad that we still represented well!
