weinoo
This thread, about good Jewish delis, veers a bit to lament the lack of late-night deli eats/shopping in the district. And it got me thinking - what about late night burger/pub food? NYC has places like J.G. Melon's (a personal favorite), Tavern on Jane, Corner Bistro, Black Iron Burger and a number of other joints where one can get a burger, club sandwich, patty melt, etc. after the witching hour. Along with a draft or even a highball. So where does everyone head say, after the Springsteen concert next week, if you want to grab a quick, decent burger? And since the show is on a Monday night, and there may be less to choose from, what about a Thursday, Friday or Saturday? How's the burger at Bourbon, for instance? jparrott
How's the burger at Bourbon, for instance? Not bad. But not available after midnight during the week.

I love Tavern on Jane, though I get to NYC infrequently. After the Springsteen concert, I'm planning to head home, but if I were to stop for food on the way, I'd go to Tunnicliff's Tavern* near Eastern Market, which is what feels to me like my neighborhood Tavern on Jane. They used to have a late night menu, but they don't advertise one anymore, so I'm not sure what one can get after midnight. I should ask about that.Near Verizon Center, I'd check to see what they have at Clyde's, though apparently the food there isn't as good as at some of the other locations. (My disclaimer ) *ETA after Mark's reply: owned by the same people who own Stoney's.
Anna Phor
You might try Harry's if you're looking for somewhere that's open late within walking distance of the Verizon Center.
weinoo
Thanks for the responses so far. This isn't meant to be a request for only after a concert, but a more general request for late-night dining...a lot of which tends to take place in pub-like places. Pat
I asked, and Tunnicliffs does still have a late night menu, from 11PM to 1 AM-ish. I took a quick look. It's limited to maybe 8-10 items. Hamburger/cheeseburger, wings, cheese or pepperoni pizza, and several salads.
Waitman
Thanks for the responses so far. This isn't meant to be a request for only after a concert, but a more general request for late-night dining...a lot of which tends to take place in pub-like places. Late night is scarce. Having had Symphony tickets for many years I found it hard to get a meal as early as 10 o'clock on a Friday night. If you don't mind your hamburger served quite rare, the steak tartar and frites at Bistro Francais hit the spot nicely, and there are numerous other French options until very late, should you be in Georgetown (or in the mood for a pleasant walk from the Kennedy Center). As a matter of fact, there's a strong argument that one should never actually go to Georgetown under any circumstances unless one is going the BF after midnight (when there's actually parking!). Similarly, Bistro du Coin goes reasonably late on weekends, at least until midnight and maybe until 1AM. I think the onglet there is, in many ways, the French answer to the cheeseburger in terms of beefy taste after lots of drinking. Old Ebbitt has a late night menu, until 1AM, including cheap oysters most nights. And, Annie's Paramount, on 17th and Q, serves an edible burger quite late. DonRocks
Just a general comment ... when New Yorkers smirk at the "superiority" of New York City dining, this thread is exactly what they're smirking about. Would not send my dog to Stoney's, Harry's, Tunnicliff's, Clyde's, etc. Cashion's Eat Place has a late-night menu from 12-2 AM on Friday and Saturday nights (click, and scroll down to the bottom). Caution: The kitchen is closed from 11 PM until midnight, so don't show up early.
Lola007
For burgers/late-night fare, in Adams Morgan, Bourbon, the Diner, and the Black Squirrel would be good bets (although I've had mixed xperiences at the Diner and hesitate to recommend it unless someone is starving!). I haven't been in a while, but have had some very goood burgers at the Black Squirrel and have satisfied my cravins for tater tots more than once at Bourbon. Logan Tavern (Logan Circle) and Hudson Restaurant & Lounge (in the Dupont Circle/Farragut area) both have late night menus. And about Cashion's Eat Place, I haven't been, but have heard great things about its late-night menu too. P.S. Not for burgers, but if you have a craving for kabobs, Moby Dick's Dupont location is open until 3 or 4 am on Friday and Saturday nights.
weinoo
Cashion's late night menu looks like a good choice for Friday and Saturday nights; especially since we're looking at an apartment right up the road! And who's smirking?
Hannah
Ben's Chili Bowl is also open late - per their web site, 2am Mon-Thurs, 4am Fri-Sat, 11pm Sun, full menu available until closing. <homer>Mmm, late night chili dogs.</homer>
zoramargolis
I was at the McLean Moby Dick the other day, and they had a sign up saying that the Dupont branch of Moby Dick is open until 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.
dcs
According to its online menu, Masa 14 serves food weekdays until 1am and weekends until 2am.
squidsdc
Too new to call it pub food, but the new Reserve lists the lounge as being open until 3am Fri and Sat, and 2am Mon-Thurs.
