Coffee County Farmer's market, Manchester TN:

tiny little potatoes

purple green beans

tomatoes that need a little time on the counter but smelled good

radishes

white patty pan squash

cherry, blackberry and muscadine jelly

pickled okra

green tomato relish

and a fine conversation about home canning

Cool, Heather!

How does the market compare to ones you've been to around here?

There's a new volunteer who used to farm in South Carolina. He said that there was great suspicion about organic farming (viewed as Northern & elitist, even though he himself was local born and raised) a decade ago and resistance remains.

Fewer yuppies.

It was small, and the word "organic" never came up.

What, I don't count?

A much smaller selection than expected, maybe six farms and still too early in the season, it appears. I'm guessing there will be no heirloom tomatoes.

No, you don't count.

Maybe no heirloom tomatoes, but some of the folks seemed interested in unusual varieties of beans and squash.

Ahhh...I'm starting to get the picture. Don't producers count, either?

But plenty of gourds in the fall.
