  1. From fests to parades, there’s always something going on in the nation’s capital in the summertime. Us locals are a little spoiled, especially since visitors often save for months or spend their life savings to come here when we have access to the greatest tastings, festivals, fairs, and events year round. Don’t be afraid to venture out to fests in the ‘burbs. You can have some fun, enjoy some good eats, and breathe some fresh air (for a change).   5. Hello DR'ers! Just in case you have not heard. The DC Restaurant Week Summer 2010 dates have been announced. As you known, DC Restaurant Week occurs twice a year usually during the slow restaurant season in the winter (usually January) and the late summer (usually August). Now various cities around the DC area are jumping in on the action with their own restaurant weeks, such as Alexandria, VA and Bethesda Chevy Chase , MD. Restaurants are typically slow around the holiday season and in the summertime when people take vacation away from the DC area. Many restaurants welcome Restaurant Week as a way to drum up new business. Summer’s Restaurant Week is coming! See below for the Summer 2010 Restaurant Week dates. Also, don’t forget that restaurant week menus will be posted here, as usual. Restaurant Week Summer 2009 menus. Check back for an updated list of menus. * Alexandria, VA Restaurant Week: August 20 – 29, 2010 ($35 Three-Course Dinners and $35 Dinners for Two) * Bethesda Chevy Chase Restaurant Week: July 26 – August 1, 2010 ($12 or $15 Two-Course Lunches & $30 Three-Course Dinners) * District of Columbia: August 16 – 22, 2010 (confirmed dates) 16th annual Washington, DC Restaurant Week from August 16-22, 2010, sponsored by Cadillac and American Express. Lunch: $20.10 for a three courses fixed-price meal. Dinner: $35.10 for a three-course fixed-price meal; Beverages, gratuity and tax are not included.

On October 15, 2009, members of the local DC chapter of Childhelp will be Guest Bartenders for the night at the Tavern at Great Fallsin Great Falls, VA. Beginning at 6 p.m., Childhelp will kick off their First Annual Oktoberfest. Festivities include live entertainment and a special Oktoberfest brew! 10% of your drink tickets and all of your generous tips benefit the children of Childhelp! Since 1959, Childhelp® has been meeting the physical, emotional and educational needs of abused, neglected and at-risk children. We focus our efforts on advocacy, prevention, treatment and community outreach. (lunch only for Aug.3-14); (lunch only for Aug. 17-28) Acadiana - Offering a special restaurant week lunch and dinner menus for first and third courses. Acadiana is proud to continue their tradition of offering any entrée on their current lunch or dinner menu as second course. Art and Soul Restaurant (lunch and dinner) - Executive Chef Travis Timberlake is offering many of his excellent dishes that are available on the regular lunch and dinner menu. Posh Supper Club (dinner) Chef Chris Willis is offering almost his entire dinner menu for the prix fixe price. Potenza (lunch and dinner) - The left hand side of the menu is not part of restaurant week as that is the frutti di mare, salumi, formaggi and vegetable area. Guests will be able to choose from zuppe, antipasti or insalate for first course and pasta, pesce, carne or pizza for second course. Full dessert menu will be available for 3rd course. Redwood - (lunch and dinner) Restaurant 3 - offering the big 3: 'Good Food, Good Drink, and Good Times' for Restaurant Week and all year round (lunch and dinner) Sei - will offer their restaurant week menu lunch and dinner the entire month of August. TenPenh - Offering selected appetizers as first course and selected desserts for third course for lunch and dinner restaurant week menus but plans to continue their tradition of offering any entrée on their regular lunch or dinner menu as the main course.
