Yes, sorry. Lukas is an avowed bitters fan and opened a bitters bar pop up below Smoke n Barrel last year but the setting and client base didn't really seem to work

I've given some thought to a Nest doorbell, but seriously, nobody rings our doorbell.

"On August 27th, I’ll be leaving 2 Birds 1 Stone, Proof & Doi Moi side of Fat Baby restaurants. It’s a bittersweet departure, but I appreciate my time with these wonderful restaurants & anticipate wonderful things for both myself & the group in the future.

My wife and I cancelled our reservation at Ellē last night in order to try something new (RIP, Jonathan Gold). We'd never been to Nostos, hadn't even heard of it, but had an excellent dinner last night. The fava bean condiment was dull, but the taramosalata and roast eggplant made up for it. For specials we had the feta saganaki, but brilliantly served with watermelon cubes, all cut the same and stacked in a brick—salty sweet summer perfection—and then ate up a perfectly cooked dorade. We were early, but it was full by the time we left at 7, on a Monday night.

Showed up super early and sat at the bar around 5 on Saturday.

Hubby and I went on Saturday for lunch and were really impressed with the food. 

I just meandered into TNR.  They took over an adjacent vacant space and finished a renovation about one month ago. 

Unfortunately, this place has closed.  Another for the 'subscript' treatment.

I figured I'd come out of hibernation for a quick post.

This is the best new restaurant in DC.

Yes.  Its great for the backstory and sets the stage nicely for the series.  Its also pretty good.  However, be aware that a)there are 2 versions and the one you'll probably see is the revised one (which I think is better anyway) & b)the series has a very different cast of characters than "The Gathering" so don't get too attached to any of the characters.  I actually liked Babylon 5 more than the Star Trek series.

Grover and I were the first to snag dinner at Chef Will Artley's pop-up at Bastille.  He's there July 19 to 29 while waiting for his new restaurant to be completed. To say that the five course for $55 dinner we had was amazing does not even begin to describe how well the flavors balanced and complemented each other.  The menu: 

"TROPICAL AMBROSIA

tapioca – mango – meringue – passion fruit"

Currently Ray's is carrying deluxe hamburgers.  Big juicy well made burgers;  Hell Burger kinds of deluxe burgers.  They are on the menu with the full assortment of steaks, plus the non steak seafood dishes.

Had a great experience here last night.  For apps we got the kara-age and the veggie/shrimp tempura soba.  Karage was crunchy, but not overcooked  served with mustard and spicy mayo on side.  The soba was really good---noodles had a nice bite with buckwheat flavor coming through--small dishes of pickled cucumbers, scallion and wasabi, and seaweed/lotus root on the side.  Expertly fried tempura shiso leaf, whole pepper and shrimp--not greasy at all.  Nice cool mentsuyu for dipping.  Excellent

We stopped in for dinner last night and were generally pleased. We arrived at about 8:15 and only about 6 tables were occupied. Our server seemed busy closing up shop, but she was generally available when we needed her.

Pineapple and Pearls was very new when we moved away from DC in early 2016. Despite the accolades to motivate us and regular trips back to the area for both work and pleasure since then, we had our first meal there over the weekend.

It is unfortunate 1L has become a restaurant haven.  Initially it was supposed to be more mixed use with a mid/high end grocery store as an anchor.     

I just waked by this afternoon and the place has re-opened.   I feel bad that people will think it is closed and won't patronize it.  On Yelp, it says it is closed, but you can make reservations on OpenTable.  Best of luck to them.
