  1. So I just placed my delivery order -- a little frustrating!! They are out of the the #13 braised ribs and #33 chicken, the things I have heard raved about the most! I hope what we end up with is good- the lady taking the orders and I had a hard time understanding each other. When I first called, she kept trying to match up the numbers with items on the American menu. I finally convinced her we wanted items off of the other menu, but it took awhile.
  2. Pandahugga- perhaps you could just leave a copy of your translations (and suggestions) at the door and we could all just ask for the rocks menu? That would be helpful at several restaurants, so i don't have to rack my brain remembering what everyone said are "the" things to order. Although, corduroy's pork belly has received so many love poems, I don't think anyone could forget it.
  3. I am going by to get some takeout tonight after hearing people rave about this place! I am so lucky relatively close by. After reading everyone's comments, I think I want: the fried fish, dry w/no salt the pickled vegetable dish (pat choi?) pumpkin cakes smoked sesame chicken five flavor beef tendon In order to get these things, do I need to ask for the CHinese menu? Or should I just tell them what numbers they are? Help! I want this wonderful food!
  4. I second the friends kabob rec-- everything I have ever had there has been great. don't go expecting any atmosphere though.
  5. a krispy kreme burger: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2362369 a donut should never be violated in such a manner.
  6. I love the spicy pork chilli at jammin java. their chicken salad is great too. The chai is awful though. I will probably be kicked out of Vienna for saying it but Amphora is bad. I don't think I have ever had anything good there other than desserts.
  7. I stopped in tonight for a takeout dinner, they have updated the place, nothing major though. They have new menus-- seems to be basically the same, they have added a few items, the prices might have risen a little. Food was greasier than usual. Waitstaff was doing a great job, the hostess was disorganized- I haven't seen her before, so hopefully she is new. There was an ad for their other restaurants, including the new Indique Heights which is opening soon. Overall, no major complaints, definately a bargain.
  8. I just had a amazing dinner at The Mustard Seed on James Island (they have 2 other locations in the area). We started with a Fried green tomato and crabcake napoleon with a corn chutney on top-- a great mix of flavors and textures. My entree was pork tenderloin encrusted with walnuts with a raspberry cola reduction, served with sweet potatoes and a slaw made with cucumbers, greens, and a vinegar base. I wish I had room for dessert, I know it would have been amazing there. If you are visiting Charleston, definitely stop in for a visit.
  9. I should have listened to you! We ended up at heritage india and had an unimpressive meal. We were so hungry after looking at the galleries, we stopped at the first place we walked by, which I thought I remember hearing good reviews about. We walk in and got a table about 15 minutes later-- the bar was packed, but no one was really waiting for a table. I ordered wine by the glass. Annoyance #1- the wine by the glass was neither described, nor were the prices listed on the wine list. We ordered several of the small plates: Aloo Tikki- Potato cakes, shaped like volcanos, there were solid, nothing to get excited about. Behl Puri- A lentil salad served in a papadum. I didn't like it-- it was too sweet at first for the savoriness that followed. +1 dug it, though. Seekh Kabob- Minced lamb that was seasoned, again solid. Polenta Cake with Oriental Chicken- While it was described as "not for the faint- hearted", I didn't find the seasoning to be too spicy. This was by far my favorite dish. Naan- Good We were planning on ordering dessert, but then our waiter disappeared-- the way the restaurant is set up, I knew he wasn't in another part of it-- he was just gone. We didn't see him again for 15 minutes, most of the other tables were looking for him, as well. Our bill was less than $35 (before tip), so it was cheap, but I don't see how this restaurant ever qualified as one of the 100 best in DC. So we left and hit Krispy Kreme-- a hot doughnut now, beats most anything.
  10. We are doing the gallery walk in Dupont tomorrow night, need a CHEAP and great place to eat in the area afterwards. Anyone have a great suggestion or two?
  11. i love their pumpkin dishes-- so sweet and savory. their service is SLOW, but not unattentive. more later.
  12. I second Busara's. The bento boxes are more creative at Konami than at other places. I have heard great things about Fleming's Steak House. I am not a fan of Mr. Smith's it was extremely smoky the one night we went there. Pilin Thai is great and cheap, it is in the same shopping center as Mr. Smith's and Gold's Gym. Head a little way down the road to Vienna for Sweet Ginger (Sushi) or Panshjir (Afghan.) I haven't found anything memorable in the mall. Galleria has the usual suspects- Cheesecake Factory, PF Changs, Maggiano's. I should add I experienced the worst service in my life at On the Border, so bad that the manager personally apologized and comped our entire meal. (The waiter stopped in the middle of taking our order to answer his cell phone, among other things) I am in the minority, but I like Colvin Run-- i have heard they have a great daily lunch special. I went during Restaurant Week and had excellent service and food- if they can do it that week, they can do it anytime. Good luck!
  13. Every Friday night, 5-8pm Paul's in Chevy Chase has a free wine tasting. You can get on their mailing list and they will let you know which ones they are sampling ahead of time.
  14. It was on Maple Ave in Vienna until about six months ago. I don't think I have ever heard anyone talk about it around here.
