  1. Ahh Heidelberg Bakery, you have disappointed me for the last time. I used to love this place, but after three bad experiences and consulting my coworker (a long time resident of Arlington who had the same feeling of a major downturn in this bakery) I felt compelled to write this review. This place used to be amazing, but I am not giving it two stars based on a mere fall from grace. No, I am instead giving it two stars based on the fact that over the last three experiences I had 2 sliced cakes that were very stale, 1 napoleon that had wax somehow infused inside the cake giving it a paraffin taste, and 1 stale over-baked bread. Now I guess this would be all ok if I was getting baked goods all the time, which I am not. This is a special craving fix-filler, and there is nothing worse than getting your pastries home, desiring to fulfill that deep need for sugar and texture and all the other tastes, only to be rabidly disappointed. Sorry Heidelberg, I'll be going to the German Gourmet or maybe try the frequently recommended Randolph Pastries from here on end.
  2. This is for nam Viet. This place is alright, but they dont seem to have any idea what Nyuk Mam is (the clear kind not the sweet kind) is when I ask for it, even though its a very common vietnamese ingredient, and I like to add it to my pho. And yes, I have ordered the cuisine here, its alright, but no comparison to Mihns for portions or price. Place is decent, but prices are actually cheaper by a fraction of a dollar at Mihns, which has more accomodating service and better ambience. So unless you live closer to Nam Viet than Mihns, and you dont feel like going to the Eden Center, Its alright, other than that, I would recommend Mihns or nearly any place in the Eden Center above this place.
  3. Very nearly as good as some of the places in the Eden Center. Nearly. But, the service is excellent, the decor is quite nice, and the prices are amazing. Add outdoor seating and good private parking, and its a sure winner. This is a family run place, but they know they are making food for the Arlington crowd, so its a little dumbed down, but only a little. This is very comforting food, healthy, and has a wide variety. A truly enjoyable dining experience for both aficionados of Vietnamese cuisine as well as newcomers. Hardcore Vietamese food fanatics may be a little disappointed, but only a little. But, overall an outstanding dining experience, great food, great prices, and service. Highly recommended.
  4. Del Ray location: Seriously? I dont even want to bother writing a review so as not to waste any more time on this place. First, the server couldnt care less. Another server for another table was very friendly, ours didnt seem to care. Ok, but we were there to eat, so ok. I dont eat chips all that much, but they were completely stale, and the salsa was some sort of pebbly crap. Then our food came, the shrimp dish had 5 shrimp, then a heaping helping of grilled onions and peppers with some sort of cheese on it (not even machengo). Then the rice was poorly cooked, so I couldnt even fill myself on that. Seriously, i want my time back so I can eat something that doesnt make me want to wretch. One of the first meals in a long time where I almost left when we got our food.
  5. Meh exactly. Service was rushed even though there was nobody else there. Each dish seemed to lack, umm... something. Right around the corner from me, but unlikely that I will go back. Lebanese taverna is tastier, and no need to deal with rushed service. On the upside, the greeter at the door was very respectful. Btw two friends who ate together at another time got sick on the kibbeh nidayeh.
  6. Guajillo used to be my go to Mexican place in the DC area. Now second time back after a while and it was terrible both times. I figured the first time was a fluke, but the second time confirmed it. Both of these terrible occasions was separated by 4 months. I guess I am a glutton for punishment, but the food kept me from being a glutton, or barely eating at all. My Mastiso de Puerco was incredibly dried out, without any flavor. The beans also had no flavor, the salsa was watery and also without flavor. The wife's Enchiladas were previously made or frozen and reheated. The Margarita she had was terrible, I estimate not even one shot of liquor within the huge pint glass of cheap mixer. The staff was indifferent and didn't seem to care, funny since there were about two of them for every customer in the place. Avoid at all costs. Its sad what has happened to what was once a fantastic little place. Now there seems to be no reason to hit up this stretch of Courthouse.
  7. Jason here. A serious eater very frustrated with sites like yelp that have every crap restaurant as 4'stars, rated by people who seem without any sense of taste. Living I Arlington Virginia and recently eating mostly in dc due to many disappointments more locally.
