Did you stay in BA or take any day trips, like to the Tigre Delta, for example?

I was in BA in 2010, so I don't have much useful info at this point other than to highly recommend a trip to Iguazu Falls, which I thought was one of the most beautiful and impressive places I've ever been. You could probably do it in a (long) day, but it's about an hour flight. We stayed one night there and visited the Argentine side one day and the Brazilian side the other day. At the time U.S. citizens needed a visa to visit Brazil (not sure if that's changed), and we thought it was worth the hassle of getting the visa to see the Brazilian side as well as the Argentine side. We also needed a yellow fever vaccine for Brazil.

While I look forward to eating the dishes as they were intended to be served, and not out of take out containers, I must admit, I'm not thrilled about the food court aspect of eating a meal there.

I agree. Although I'm interested in the food, I've never eaten there because I'm unenthused about the fast food/food court vibe.

It isn’t. You infuse the cream with them. Tastes kind of bitter almond. It’s a bi-rite creamery recipe, and is inspired by a recipe from chez panessse.

Yeah, I mistyped. I Googled recipes and saw that you steep them in the cream. I guess what I should have typed was, "Fascinating! I never knew that peach leaves have flavor."

  4. As a very casual fan, I'm also rooting for Argentina, even though I have French heritage. I was in Buenos Aires in May 2010 and the local TV stations showed incessant coverage of the Argentine team heading to the airport for the World Cup on their bus. I remember hearing about Messi but didn't even know who he was at the time. I remember just being wowed by the spectacle of it all.

I was also in Paris when France won the World Cup in 1998 (actually, we might have arrived a day or two after they won). At the time I had NO IDEA what a big deal the World Cup was. I had a better idea in 2010 in Buenos Aires but was still surprised by the incessant coverage of the team's bus.

    Drama drama drama

Tangential to the games, but any thoughts on the journalist fatally collapsing during Argentina v. Netherlands? I'm a VERY casual fan, but I just heard him on a podcast recapping the USA v. Netherlands game. I didn't previously know how significant he was in the soccer world.

  6. My husband and I will be driving from Silver Spring to Stafford, VA, late Friday afternoon to drop off our daughter at Girl Scout camp for the weekend (I'm terrified of how long this trip will take). We'd like to get dinner after we drop her off, probably somewhere along I-95 between Stafford and the Beltway. We're never in this area, so I'm looking for suggestions. I'd say we're open to just about anything as long as it's good.

Thanks in advance for any intel!

It definitely came in handy as there was an hour long delay on the Bay Bridge because they shut down the east bound lanes for people to walk/run across the Bay Bridge.  Stupidest idea ever but that's just my opinion.  We ended up eating the sub in the parking lot of the Queenstown outlets.

Say hi next time. I ran the 10k across the bridge yesterday and went to the Queenstown outlets afterwards. 😆

That kind of thing is a real nuisance. One thing I've discovered works well with that extra several ounces of pumpkin puree is to add it to mac and cheese, with a bit more nutmeg or whatever warm spices you like.

I was thinking of you as I wrote that because you seem to be VERY good as using up leftover ingredients (judging from the dinner thread)!
