  1. This saddens me so- we were regulars since they been open many many moons ago, Sunday nights at the bar was always a joy, filled as it was with all of DC’s (restaurant) finest; hell one of the staff babysat my older brother way back when... Also- Don: what’s a basement? We don’t have these; lastly, Katrina: not a competition, just a thought
  2. There are few things better in life than 6# from Schaefer and Rusich, consumed with a 6 pack of Covington strawberry on the shores of the lake
  3. Seconded this recommendation wholeheartedly! The cochinita pibil, chicken tortilla soup and mango agua fresca (add tequila) were lifesavers for us after a weekend of Beard Awards tomfoolery, made the trip back home all the more merrier (and less nauseating)
  4. Get the crab and corn callelloni and thank me later
  5. Tudor’s is a tremendous, fast food treasure- my family is from down south in Mercer county and there are only ever 3 restaurant stops we make in Princeton: Cracker Barrel Outback and Tudor’s Biscuit World if I could make biscuits as good as Popeye’s then I would die a happy man; if I could make Biscuits as good as Tudor’s, I would be, at the least, a minor deity
  6. Yes, yes and yes!!!! Clancy's is probably my favorite joint
  7. Lunch st Galatoire's is a must- I vastly prefer Arnaud's to Antoine's but that is just me being me
  8. Crawfish will be in full swing then so you should definitely hit up Bevi in midcity, Harbor out by the airport (always my first stop when coming back home), Clesi's, also in midcity, should be done with renovations by then - all have excellent crawfish and are close enough to get to easily For lunch/afternoon Cochon Butcher has excellent sandwiches though is always packed Pho Tau Bay has the best Vietnamese if you don't want to trek out to New Orleans East or the Westbank- it's across the street from Charity Hospital on Tulane Marjie's Grill on Broad by the courthouse is a rad place to jam (yes the owners are dear friends of mine but the food is dat damn good) Finally, shameless self promotion: go to the Ogden Museum of Southern Art to see my wife then sit on the patio at Herbsaint and watch the streetcar roll by and the sazeracs flow... ⚜️
  9. How was it!?! Every year, I'm always surprised how good Rouses' Crawfish are..
  10. Duke's BBQ in Aiken. That's all that needs to be said
  11. Yes I have, unfortunately. Nile was abysmal, Abyssinia less so- Le sigh... we used to live a block from Zenebech way back when, last time we were in town I could hardly recognize my home turf
  12. Angeline and Peche are both wonderful, I've not been to Toup's South but have been underwhelmed by the original in the past (I've not been in well over a here though, so...) However you will be in the decidedly different museum that is the Southern Food and Beverage, which you can (naturally) peruse with a cocktail from Toups in yer hand, so, you know, there's that. Haven't been to R'evolution, bit too high falootin' for my tastes, though that's obviously just a personal thang. Heard laughable things bout Meril but that was during their soft opening so presumably those issues should've been addressed by now. Happy gut hunting!
  13. Damn! Jaime texted me right after I had left for the day, oh well...
  14. No Rec's outside of the usual suspects: Mopho Red's Chinese Crabby Jack's Shyan's Ktchen Bacchanal Turkey and the Wolf LA Smokehouse Sammy's Foodservice Little Korea Melba's Cajun's Seafood Lil Dizzy's and of course, if you're in the mood for a wonderfully scenic drive and a bucolic lakeside meal, Off the Dock Seafood (previously The Crab Trap)
  15. Say hi next time! Just kidding but next time say hi to Jason for us, we don't get to see him as much as we should. Or just come down to Herbsaint...
  16. Last I heard, Cashion's alum, Colorado Kitchen chef and owner and all around all star, Gillian Clark had landed in Mobile.
  17. My wife and I lived nearby before we left DC and regularly partook of the tongue-sizzling numbness that is (or can be) Great Wall. I've had fantastic dishes time and time again (Ma Po Tofu with meat, Szechuan Pork Dumplings, Szechuan Eggplant, Bok Choy with Garlic for instance) and some staggeringly bad ones (Peking Duck- well that's on me, poor ordering, Pork Belly, a few of the American-Chinese classics). Over the years, they were always consistent- that is, the Szechuan menu was on point, nearly flawless, consistently and the poor dishes continued to be poor Oh for bowl of Ma Po Tofu...Chinese pretty thin on the ground in southeast Louisiana
