  1. Masala Art has been consistently good pre Arena Stage for us and they will get you in and out so at your show on time. They also have half price wine deals if you get the pre fix.
  2. I wasn't too impressed with Cured though it has been a couple of years. Hot Joy is fun. I've had good meals at Bigga on the Banks, can be pricey. Touristy but fun El Marcado in the Market Square has decent tex mex though Los Barrios remains a favorite-also try Rosarios on South Alamo. Have a drink at Esquire Taven.
  3. They also might be able to order it for you.
  4. 1924 Vosne Romanee recently. Really not bad but more of an experience than a great wine.
  5. I usually bring a Condrieu to wino dinners as most folks don't get them. I had a Vernay a few years ago and it was very good. I recently bought a couple 2015 Domaine Louis Cheze Condrieu Cuvée Pagus Luminis. Mark, do you know this producer?
  6. Sorry to read this. A very nice and knowledgeable restaurant owner. I also appreciated his support of live jazz and had a fun evening watching the great Bill Heid last year.
  7. The restaurant is indeed striking and was about half full with plenty of bar stools. We asked to be seated on the upper level to make conversation at normal speaking levels a reality. our meal was enjoyable especially the chicken wings and fried oyster apps. My shrimp and grits was reduced in flavor by the unnecessary zucchini and fried egg making it a bit watery. The shrimp were of good quality but the grits were ordinary. I tasted the fried blue catfish which was well prepared and not greasy. Sides of collards and mac/cheese with bacon had plenty of flavor. Wine pours were average but priced at a reasonable level for DC. We were full and skipped dessert. Bill with tip was just over $200 for the three of us. Service was friendly and server Alex knew the menu. This is not cutting edge cuisine but generally fun to eat. The space is large enough that I wonder about sustainability in today's crowded dining market given the overhead required to operate a venue of this size.
  8. Fair enough and it may be too hot to walk anywhere. Thanks
  9. Thanks for the suggestions. There are several places within walking distance of our hotel.
  10. LA Times has a paywall. Gold just listed his 101 best yesterday. Anyone read it and care to share?
  11. 2 persons so 1 Adult (wife) and 1 other (me). No car. 4 nights. The daughter of a friend will be a tour guide when she has a chance. I imagine the first night we will stay close to home for dinner.
  12. There next week. Any updates on things to do? We are staying in Beverly Hills.
  13. I've been meaning to check out Mike's latest in College Park. It will be interesting to see the level of quality. Has he expanded too fast? Who will take over the two high levels positions now immediately vacant?
  14. Krebs is must reading and frequently disturbing but better to know than not these days.
  15. In London this week-staying in Kensington. Any recs appreciated!
  16. in Lisbon next week. Any updates appreciated!
  17. We dined at Blue Hen recently-liked not loved it. Service was off but friendly. First time I've seen rabbit on a beach menu. Charcuterie platter was pretty good. Very loud space-I hate yelling at my dinner companions. We'll probably get back at some point but not a top priority. We did have at good meal at Dewey Beer Company in Dewey-duh. Short menu but all dishes well prepared. Team service well done and there are a few parking spots on the side. My niece and nephew enjoyed the beer brewed in house. Wine list not overly priced-Cline rose a bit sweet but refreshing on a hot day.
  18. Never had a meal there I would call better than average at best so no loss, IMO.
  19. I liked the bread but was underwhelmed by our dinner last week. Seafood in my dish was either not fresh or overcooked. Excellent team service and a good happy hour with fun drink and food specials-I'd probably return for that.
