  1. I ordered an expensive Juniors cheesecake a few years ago shipped to a party I was attending. It was dry, tasteless and nobody ate it. Never again.
  2. Jaleo has an excellent wine program and they are totally ok with corkage. I thought the Bethesda location better than the original downtown.
  3. The fest was a blast and the food booths were excellent. While we enjoyed our meals at Shaya, Sylvain and Clancys it reminded me how far our area has come in terms of quality dining. Shaya was probably our least favorite, Zaytinya overall does this type of cuisine better. The room also was extremely loud and affected our enjoyment of the meal.
  4. I think wine chillers are basically a rip off in general though I've had no issues with the units I have in both our houses. It is very important to get the fridge in place and then let it sit for a 2 or 3 days to let the refrigerant settle before plugging it in.
  5. We dined at Ripple last night. Usual informed service-Lauren was great but the meal was the best I've had there; everything top tier. I had the 4 course tasting menu for $49 which I think is a bargain. We brought our own wine.
  6. Off to French Quarter Fest tomorrow so any updates appreciated. We've booked a few places-Shaya, Sylvain, Clancys for a family dinner Monday.
  7. small batch. They make a single barrel for twice the price which I don't think is that much better. Small batch is $30 at VA state stores. I used to get it at MC outlets for the same price but not lately.
  8. agree on the 101. I keep a 1.75 on the bar at all times. Have you tried Bowman Brothers-the small batch bottling? To me, an incredible value but getting harder to find.
  9. Dined there recently, excellent food and terrific service (the kind you don't get in DC that often). I think this would be a great choice for a group.
  10. My father has been a member since 1981. Everything and I mean everything started to improve when women were admitted.
  11. Christine Ricci did a nice job for my wine group last year. Everyone enjoyed themselves. Keep an eye on extras that are not negotiated in advance i.e. sparkling water which was poured for everyone without making clear we would be charged. I had it taken off the bill after "discussion"
  12. If you have the audio capability, the surround mixes of the classic recordings such as Thick as a Brick are excellent.
  13. Cafe Chloe-chef owner and operated. Friendly, vibrant scene with excellent food and wine.
  14. I'm not going to repeat gossip but there's more to the story behind espuma closing. I like a(muse) but overly foodie for moi. Too many ingredients that don't meld well in some dishes. We had a lovely dinner Saturday at Lupo in the Rehoboth Hotel. This remains my overall favorite in RB. Prior to Lupo, we had cocktails at Bramble and Vine. Palma took excellent care of us despite being somewhat slammed and new to the establishment. She (and I agree) does not like their policy of measured pours for all drinks. Slows things down and my old fashioned while well made needed more bourbon.
  15. Woodys has outside seating so I'm sure the pup would be ok there and you can get the crabcake!
