  1. Lack of business and traffic. Yikes. https://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/ny-grand-central-oyster-bar-temporarily-closing-again-20201012-bid4tegn5jhtpcs2dlnlwzhpye-story.html?ref=agreatbigcity.com
  2. correspondent Heidi Przybyla saying, "After months of publicly rejecting the advice of his own medical experts, President POTUS has fallen victim to his own false narrative around the risks of the coronavirus."
  3. I only use the Trader Joe's "traditional marinara", not the flavored varieties. It is like a clean canvas for anything you add, plus it costs under $2.
  4. If Jon Karl were a woman, Pumpkin would have just walked out. When he said he didn't want to start a panic, he should have been LAUGHED OFF THE STAGE. Boo, scary Deep State Boogeymen on a plane! Brown people moving to the suburbs!! Panic! Joe Biden's America!!
  5. John Thompson and his family were regulars at Ray's the Steaks when I worked there. They were super nice people and were always greeted enthusiastically by the other customers.
  6. Many years ago I had cataract surgery at Suburban Hospital. It is an outpatient procedure and it was lunch time when I was discharged. My driver and I decided on Krupin's on the way home. Me sitting there with an enormous patch over my eye, eating chopped liver with potato pancakes, drinkin Celray soda. I met Mel several times. He was a fun guy. Sorry to hear.
  7. Wow. I also saw Jimi, Cream, Joe Cocker, Mountain (!), Janis, Leon Redbone, Jefferson Airplane, Crosby Stills and Nash, James Taylor. I missed Woodstock, though.
  8. That was the month I went off to college. I was going to Fillmore East concerts right up to August 1970. I saw Janis Joplin before she OD'ed.
  9. Something is wrong with that neighborhood. What are the landlords thinking? During a pandemic, is rent gouging really a strategy? This is the neighborhood that couldn't even support a McDonald;'s , despite the large number of subsidized residents. What I hated the most about working on that creepy little strip of Connecticut Avenue was all the $%$&*&* baby strollers. It was Pram Jam all day.
  10. I have had nothing but mediocre to terrible delivery experiences. Maybe I order the wrong things from the wrong places. New Big Wong was disappointing. Pork chops were gristly and tough. Joe's Seafood, looked like the driver had shaken the box, they pack bread and butter packets on top of hot food so that it melts and is VERY EXPENSIVE. Joe's fried chicken has been recommended to me, but I haven't done it yet. Il Canale in Georgetown has decent pizza if you keep it simple and desserts. City Lights of China has fairly consistent food but has had the most delivery problems- lateness, cancelled orders. Miss Saigon in Georgetown can't seem to make up their minds what they are doing.
  11. "José Andrés's America Eats Tavern Closes for Good in Georgetown" by Gabe Hiatt on eater.dc.com
  12. I was eating at New Heights one night when John Wabeck was the chef. The owner had sent most of the staff home. Typical for the neighborhood, a party of 30 from the hotel dropped in. Chaos ensued.
  13. https://wjla.com/news/local/union-to-employees-marriott-wardman-park-hotel-may-close-after-storied-102-year-run?fbclid=IwAR3Kgbg0VPXpotXN6x3rJm063wfgUFIGs2sKu0_S1ekgXLZMhLxp-M6Ro6E I worked here briefly in the 80's. It was hilarious to watch all the empty restaurants, and then at 7:00 PM, 2.500 people all remember its time to eat.
  14. It depends if you drink the Kool-aid. Masks and social distancing are now "Democrat " fear mongering.
  15. I gave in and ordered crab cakes from Joe's Seafood the other night. On delivery, they weren't the "colossal" crab cakes they are in the restaurant. That plus onion strings were delivered in a timely fashion, nicely packaged, contacless delivery. It just didn't feel like it was worth the $60.
