  1. Yup - I'm eating them at my desk right now. I can't remember the name of the vendor - if you enter from the south side, they're on the same side as the bread guys and Dolcezza, and I think they're just one (maybe two?) down from the bread guys.
  2. Shell peas at the Penn Quarter market today! Mmmmm...
  3. Try Biagio on 18th St. NW between Florida and T. My favorites are the pink peppercorn and the Earl Grey. Or, if you ever get up to Baltimore, I believe they carry Dolfin at Ma Petite Chou, a sweet little store in Hampden which has shoes in the front and chocolate in the back. Very, very dangerous.
  4. I thought the Georgetown location had closed already; very glad to hear I can still head over there and pick up lox at D&D in one fell swoop. All the thinking about appropriate celebration of National Bagels and Lox Day sent me into a fit of NYC food nostalgia/longing. So a package from Barney Greengrass, containing mini chocolate babka, half-sour pickles and bagels, is winging its way to DC. I'm looking forward to comparing those to the Bagelry.
  5. So, this Saturday is National Bagel and Lox Day. I'm trying to decide between the Georgetown Bagelry in Bethesda or going for H&H at Calvert Woodley. But where should I go for good lox?
  6. I went to Riverby Books this weekend; turns out their (extremely nice) manager, Leah, is the one opening Hill's Kitchen. She anticipates opening in March with kitchen stuff downstairs and a space for classes upstairs. She's planning on having some interesting items in stock, such as cheese boards made from the marble used at the National Gallery and other DC buildings. Very much looking forward to the place opening.
  7. If you can't find what you like around here, my favorite mail-order tea source is Harney & Sons in CT. They have gunpowder green tea, and you can buy it by the pound.
