Hat Trick

Hat Trick (4/123)

  1. I went there with my girlfriend last Wednesday and it is certainly promising. One thing to note is that they only have 4 wines at 1/2 price on Wednesdays and the list looked mediocre from what I could tell. The pizza was good but lacked that kick of either Two Amys or Pizzeria Paradiso. The crust is the most noticeable difference as it is more bready and was cooked less that Two Amys. The crust also was thicker which has its advantages and disadvantages but it doesnt have that airy quality that Two Amys has. The quality of the toppings looked pretty good but just seemed to lack that oomph. We also had the cupcakes which were OK. The dining space is a bit small so there could be long waits in the future but there are lots of places to eat/drink around it. The service was spotty as our server was certainly very nice but wasn't attentive as we would have liked her to be. I look forward to going there again but given the choice I would still choose Two Amys, with its 20 min extra drive, long waits, and sparse parking over this.
  2. A lot of the better restaurants in Gaithersburg are in pretty crappy locations (strip malls). The Nibbler is probably one of my favorites for a good cheap eat. Its not pretty inside nor is it very large, but the food is pretty good for the price and the employees are friendly. I have had the Lomo Saltado and the Ropa Vieja, both of which I think are pretty good. Fu Shing Cafe is pretty good for Chinese and its behind the shopping center that has Borders, Ross, etc. I havent been there over a year so I cant speak for the quality now. I have always thought Old Siam in Olde Towne was pretty good but its always empty. Junior's Chicken in Olde Towne is decent but I prefer Crisp and Juicy. Brooklyn Deli in Travilah Shopping Center is not bad either. The pastrami I got was a bit too fatty and I think I preferred the deli that was there before. The other places that have been mentioned, I would agree that they are decent but nothing special(Tandoori Nights, Moby, Ay Jalisco, Momo Taro).
  3. I have been there a couple times since they either bought/remodeled from the previous owner. I think I actually prefer the old deli that used to be there. The last time I went there (it might have been over a year) the pastrami was too fatty and lacked taste. I should try it again to see improved since when they first opened.
