  1. Hill Country BBQ in Penn Quarter. Very loud. The food is decent, my two sons, 18 and 21, want to go back.
  2. Volt. He was a top chef runner up for a reason. Food and service were both great. And I brought my own wine which they treated well.
  3. With the price increase I am hoping that Rays offer a student discount over the winter break. Hint, Hint.
  4. This was a local place I really hoped would suceed. The food was good and it usually had a crowd so I don't quite know why they closed.
  5. On Saturday Night we parked around the corner on 21st street. I believe the meters are only enforced M-F 7-7.
  6. We ate at Kinkeads last Saturday night before Sting. Plenty of open tables but that could have been because of the snow. Dinner was great, I had the crispy snapper and loved it. Wife had pepito crusted snapper which she would not share. We shared an apple Tartin and that was great. A bit pricey but free street parking offset it a little.
  7. I personally think Ray's has best taste. I have not been able to duplicate at home. They have great toppings. I'm can go between medium and medium well as long as the end product of burger, bun and toppings is juicy and tasty. I will not eat at 5 guys, but have been know to eat at Red Robin, elevation, BGR and others. The turkey burgers i grill at home are just ok.. But add Guac, hot peppers and dijon mustard.. now we're talking... Don't need char!!
  8. [Drink more cheap wine and the food does taste better. I totally agree with you, my sons like Mamas in Fallsgrove. I like it after two glasses of wine!!
  9. We were here yesterday for my wife's birthday along with my son who goes to school in Towson. Our overall impression was great and that folks on this board should break out of DC every now and again to hit up stellar places like this that are an hour away. I would have to say that Cinghiale, though at a high price point, performed well above anything like it in Washington DC. We started woth a mixed plate of Salumi and a plate of cheese both were great and well enjoyed. They have a chef whose sole job is to prepare these appitizers and it shows. Wine list was expansive, we had a great Rosso di Montiplucino . The three of us shared a truffle risotto , I had a veal chop, wife has Halibut and son had skirt steak.. All clean plates. Service was exceptiional, desserts were amazing and sublime. This restaurant group is firing on all cylinders....
  10. Cafe Elote in Sedona is highly recommended. In fact I'd skip LV and stay in Sedona for a week. We stayed in Enchantment and the SPA was heavenly and the hiking even better.
  11. How was the price point and quality of the meat? Does it compare to RTC or RTS. I live in North Potomac, is this worth going to Olney vs. Silver Spring?
  12. Totally agree. Too many posts on could've would've should've. Folks should just try it and decide if they want to go back. If they will not try it based upon pre-conceived notions, they need to get a life. if I followed that pattern I'd be drink the same wines everyday, and I don't.
  13. What about the Icehouse Cafe in Herdon. I used to frequent it a lot 20 years ago when I lived in VA. Cold beer and Jazz are tough to beat.
  14. I am in Eastport most weekends. A few quick data points Boatyard Bar and Grill-Exactly what a bar and grill should be. good food nothing special... Noisy and kid friendly Olearys-Great food and Wine. They do try to do too much on one plate such that an entree can be overwhelming.. But I always clean my plate... Fish is top notch Main Ingrediant-Just tried it for first time.. Away from the water, which means cheaper. Food was very nice and we'll be back. Davis's pub-Cheap beer and salty folks.
  15. Dan You have the love for the place. Why not buy it out and give it a go!! Mark
  16. Volt, though I havent been back since Top Chef. Service and food were both outstanding.
  17. I'd heat the grill medium if you can. It really depends on your grill, My grill 10 is about 1000 degrees. Salt and pepper are mandatory and if you want to make your experience foolproof use a soaked cedar planl.
  18. I use two applications that work very well in tandem. Cellartracker ks a web based application where I can track my wine cellar as well as see what others who have the same wine though when they drank it. Lots of reports about what is ready to drink, hold, etc. This site keeps getting better and they offer integration with several wine sites for professional reviews. Cellarvu is an app I use with my Ipad which displays the cellartracker inventory and give me a great way to look at what I have. I track about 500 bottles using these two apps.
  19. My son will be home from college this summer and is looking for work. Anything within 45 minute drive from Rockville would be OK. Has has two years of experience serving food and beverages at local country clubs. He is a big kid who can lift kegs if needed and would train as a bartender as well as work as a server/runner. Thanks Mark
  20. We had Naan, Lamb Rogan Josh, Chicken Nilgiri Khormna and Baingan Bharta. It wasn't bad just not spectatcular.. The Baingan Bharta didn't have that smokey eggplant taste I expect. The lamb was just OK, nothing I would want seconds from.
  21. We went Saturday night and would not come back so quick. We have been going to Spice Crossing but it was 830, no reservations and we thought that Bombay Bistro would be better. Not. The food seemed very one note to us, flat where good food should sing out. It just seemed tired and regular compared to other places we go.
  22. We sat in the middle(bistro) section where our waiter told us we could order off either menu. Three of us had the Hell Burger for the first time and each agreed it was the best tasting burger we have ever had. My wife and son would love my burgers to have that beef taste. Maybe I need to start grinding strip steaks from Costco as an experiment. We had three glasses of wine and I thought the pours were generous, probably 1/4 of the bottle. With Salads for the adults and mac n cheese for my son, we were too stuffed for desert. We'll be back.. Michael-How do I get my burgers to taste like yours?
  23. A log time ago when The Rio Grande was i their origial location in Bethesda they offered Cabrito(Goat Leg) oe ight a week. This was both amazig i flavor compared to the glop ad a tremedous bargain as that goat leg could feed me for several days. Alas..o more Cabrito
