  1. Been a while since I was there, but this place was know for nem nuong cuon (grilled pork rolls) which are grilled pork saugage wrapped in rice paper with lettuce, cucumber, carrot, daikon and mint and served with an orange dipping sauce and thai chili peppers. The rolls were excellent. Not quite as good as what you can get at Brodard or Dat Thanh in Little Saigon, but still great. I dip the roll in the sauce and then eat one thai chili pepper with each bite.
  2. The smell is not over-rated, it is that bad. But it is also wonderfully creamy. Eating it is such a contrast between taste/texture and smell.
  3. These are the two of my favorite things...
  4. Actually, this dinner will be a bargain at only $10,000 a head. The $25,000 dinner was in Bangkok. And what a success it was. From the $1 million generated, they have been able to distribute a whole $61,000 to charities.
  5. My wife makes a similar dish using both bone-in and boneless pork. But instead of sugar, she uses palm sugar. It comes in a solid block and is a dark brown color. She always uses this type of sugar when making any dish slow cooked in a clay pot.
  6. In addition to the Charles Chips, my family use to get Schwan's ice cream delivered when I was but a wee lad.
  7. Noticed they will be opening a second location in Seven Corners in what was formerly a diner and prior to that a Pizza Hut.
  8. Second the Dirty recommendation. Got a box as a birthday present. I also like Tims' Cascade.
  9. I am not sure if this is the case for you but if you are doing take out, make sure that they do not cook the noodles. The container of broth should only contain the broth. No noodles or meat in the broth. When you get home, heat up the broth, then add your noodles, meat, bean sprout, mint, plum sauce, etc. Makes for a much better experience. My wife and I prefer the pho at Pho Xe Lua in Eden Center, but service issues keep us going to Pho 75 in Falls Church. We tried Pho 50 but they got the order wrong on four straight visits.
  10. As I was scanning my viewing options last night, spent a few minutes watching some bbq cook-off on the Versus network. Did not look as anything that was interesting, especially when the first judge was "Chocolate Thunder" from the Planet Lovetron, Darryl Dawkins. The final judge did peak my interst though, it was none other than Michel Richard. As I only saw a few minutes, could not tell the quality of the saw or the cooking, but Chef Richard can throw a mean lobster tail into the audience. BBQ Cook-off on VS
  11. Hi, Long time reader, first time poster who comes with a request (please forgive me this indiscretion). I am looking to find a private dining room for my firm's annual holiday dinner party. There will be a total of ten guests. Trying to find something new that we have not done in the past. Previous dinners have been held at Maestro (twice), Covin Run (twice), 1789, Seasons, Citronelle and Capital Grille in Tysons. Price is not an object and a good wine list always helps. Thank you in advance for your assistance. Over time, I hope to be a contributor to the DR.com community. About the only thing I have going for me is I probably got to taste Chef Ruta's cooking first, back when he was interning at the Lemon Tree in his home town of McKeesport. Plus my wife is an absulutely amazing cook and can prepare the best Vietnamese dishes. Her version of bun bo hue makes anything you get from Eden Center taste canned soup.
