  1. DD is not what it used to be (Arlington location at least). Seems like the prices went up, portions and quality of the food went down. Too much sauce, not enough meat....agree, naan was pretty dry. I prefer to call in for a take out to other places around my area, better deal and more food.
  2. I'm no expert either, but I was told that new zealand mussels come here frozen and not fresh. Maybe I'm wrong...
  3. Had lunch at Overwood with my co-workers the other day. Everyone was very impressed with the food and the size of the portions. We started with fried risotto balls with cream tomato sauce and a dinner version of shrimp and grits. I enjoyed both of the dishes, but shrimp and grits was defiantly a winner. Large shrimp on top of the cheesy grits cake, with lobster sauce and chunks of crawfish. We also orders mussels, which were cooked perfectly, because the restaurant gets them fresh, not frozen, which makes a huge difference in the texture and just the overall presentation. My co-workers had salads, shrimp and mango and a chicken salad. I liked the toasted pine-nuts addition in the chicken salad, gave it a nice little after taste...the chicken was roasted and sliced very thin, which made it extra juice. Can't go wrong with mango and shrimp also. Other salads, as they were coming out of the kitchen, looked amazing also. The focus is really the small things, like the pine-nuts, dates, shaved feta, and so forth. The salad portions were huge and filling. The dressing on both was very light, a perfect lunch meal. I tried the lunch version of shrimp and grits, a screwer of 5 large, grilled shrimps. I, particularly, preferred the dinner version, as it had more texture and ingredients to "play" with. We asked to speak to the chef, as my co-worker wanted to find out what culinary school he attended. Romy (sp) could not be any nicer and you could tell that he was really passionate about his food. Service was great and the place really picked up at lunch time. I usually never post on the board (as all of you foodies are so intimidating with your words for food), but it's been a while since I've had a meal where I enjoyed everything and stuffed myself beyond believe. I'm going back for dinner and brunch soon, so will report the latest on the brunch.
  4. I agree, not sure what happened as of recent. I was there two weeks ago, and could tell that something was out of balance. My friend had a dish that looked and tasted just like chili. All we needed was some corn breard instead of naan. Chicken was not as spicy as it used to be...I'd hate to see Bomaby lose it's special touch.
  5. Yes, that's it. I never got that though. What I did get was more of a dry Vermouth flavor. Gosh, this whole "french" thing is so misleading. p.s. the larger the "muscles" the better
  6. Six of us dined at Bistrot Lepic this past weekend. I wanted to share our experience...we had a late dinner, around 930, but the place was still packed with people. Few things...the AC was off, and it was very uncomfortably warm, even with the ceiling fans at full blast. I asked for a french martini, however, was told that they could not make it, because they didn't know how to, and if I wanted a "special" drink, I would have to go upstairs (even though they had a full bar downstairs). I ended up asking the host for one, and was told that in France, they are called American martinis?! I'm still confused about that part...anyway, I should've left it alone, but I ended up getting something that was no where close to a french martini. To continue---the food....we started with salads and soups. I had muscle, potato and leak soup, which was very nice, and the muscles were perfectly cooked and it had just a right amount. My friend had a vegetable soup, and she felt that the veggies were overcooked and mushy..and just too blah. No complaints on the salad side. I had salmon tartar with seaweed...I thought it was a nice dish, however, I would prefer less capers, for a nicer balance with the seaweed. My friend's veal dish was excellent, so was the tuna and the beef. We were looking forward to the scallops, which were just OK, and I didn't find myself caring for the broccoli "mush" they were served on...tasted more like baby food to me. We were informed that the kitchen was closing, so we had to hurry and order, if we wanted dessert. We ended up getting a chocolate cake with mint ice cream...again...nothing to "ooh" and "ahh" for. I wanted it to me more moist, with something busting in the middle, more french if you will....maybe again, I got the "American" brownie version. The restraunt was still full, however, the staff made sure to let us know that they were done for the night, by turning on the lights, and gathering in the corner to wipe wine glasses and count tips for the day. The people behind us were very pretty annoyed, with the bright light over their dessert of the night. Oh, and a lady had a dog on her lap, next to our table...now I dine with my dog at times...but animals inside, is news to me....
  7. Can't believe that my first post will be a bad one, but I just wanted to add to the unpleasant and slow service. We should've known to walk out when we overheard an angry woman looking for a manger to complain about her dinner. Anyway, food sounds great in writing, but no where as great in your mouth. Also, you can tell that the place has been there for 25+ years, the cheesy decorations are dusty and some paintings by the tables have food stains...sorry if I'm sounding too negative, but that was just my experience there.....
