  1. I suggested Passion Fish to my father as a place to go when relatives were in town. His response was that it was an overpriced Bonefish Grill. ? (Which is one of my parent's favorite places to eat) Sigh.
  2. I used to have the number of posts per page set high for my laptop, but I believe the old version had a sort of freeze frame at the top when I brought it up on my iPhone so you could always go to the home page or bring up settings or bring up a different topic. And not have to scroll endlessly to do so. Isn't there a "mobile" version so it won't behave the same on both? (I thought that was a big reason for upgrading)
  3. When on my phone and I click on a link in an email to take me to the thread, there is no way to get to the top of the page. For instance, when I go to the Capella Hotel post, it takes me to the last post. But if I start to scroll to get to the top, there appears to be no delineation of pages and the scrolling keeps going...and going...and going...I assume until I would reach the first post. I was looking for a "scroll to top" arrow or something, to no avail.
  4. I hadn't realized there were so many out there and in so many price ranges! Our standard stovetop tea kettle is finally showing rust signs after 30 yrs so I thought we'd replace it with the electric kind. I'm overwhelmed with the choices so any help is greatly appreciated!
  5. We had time for one meal out when we came to town last October for a wedding. Friday lunch at August was our choice, and I highly recommend it.
  6. back to just +1 and looking forward to it! Just heard beltway is pretty backed up this morning, so plan your routes accordingly...
  7. Don, for some reason my filters were messed up on my "view new content" and I was not seeing all the new posts. FYI - could be happening to others and that may be why my post was getting lost. It came up last night when I hit view new content, but did not come up this morning, even though there were new posts.
  8. Thanks Don and Bart. I don't know her specification for cost-not sure "moderately priced" is a factor or not. She got back to me and said that what she means by not over the top is that she is NOT looking for a trendy-focus on decor and bar scene. Kinship being so new, I don't know where that fits in to the picture?
  9. A friend has asked for suggestions and while I have a few ideas on restaurants, I don't know wine lists...so recs that fit the description below would be appreciated! Thx! "ATTN: DC PEEPS I'm requesting recommendations for DC restaurants with private rooms for approx 12-15 ppl. Excellent wine list, maybe Italian..? Not over-the-top, but definitely a place that leaves an impression."
  10. Put me in +1, possibly +2. I'm pretty sure the date is clear but need to confirm. And yes, thanks for keeping on top of this.
  11. From what I've read here, this is coming from the owners of the Limerick Pub, Squire's Rock Creek Chop House is opening just across the street on Price Ave in Wheaton. The concept reminds me of Ferdinands. I don't expect a destination restaurant, but perhaps a local watering hole where family can gather? Will be interesting to see how it is priced as well.
  12. Southern Candymakers-the best NOLA Pralines
  13. Haha, that was actually one of my hesitations to watching it in the first place-I was never a fan of that show. But he caught me by surprise.
  14. Has anyone but me seen this show? I've been meaning to post about it and really can't believe no one has mentioned it! There are only 6 episodes, and they can all be found on the PBS website, if no longer available on the tube. I highly recommend it. When it began, I was hesitant to get involved as I thought it would be another Bourdain-type tour of food places. But Phil won me over. He is charming and endearing, and the show is enjoyable to watch. Even when seeing him go to places I've seen on other shows, he puts his own spin on it. Sorry that the series is over, but maybe they'll repeat it on another PBS station...
  15. This is our "go-to" place for spontaneous "let's grab something," and Mr. S loves the papaya salad. They know us well and greet us sometimes with a "long time no see!"
  16. Dined at Ted's for the first time, at brunch in Reston. First thought when we sat down was that it looked and smelled like "Farrell's" for those old fogey's who remember that establishment. (Farrell's was my first "real" job.) I didn't expect fine dining, and the food was fine. And like Farrell's, Ted's serves a similar purpose in dining out with the family. We didn't have to wait at all, and if we had, my view might have been different. Nice place to gather friends/family for a variety of options to eat at brunch.
  17. Where's the dislike button? Fair is fair. Why have you not posted a similar statement about the NYTimes? I have had the same frustration with their paywall and am unable to see links posted in this forum. I don't subscribe because I don't frequently read the NY paper, only occasionally. If you subscribe to the Post's print edition you don't have to pay for the online version. The least you could do is support your local paper! (or support my husband keeping his job ) BTW, I would be a subscriber to the Post regardless, since I like to keep abreast of the local news. And an online subscription would be worthwile to me, even if I decide to end the print subscription.
  18. I'm with Don here. One of my staples growing up was bologna and cream cheese on a bagel. And when we had corned beef from the deli, that too. Not kosher, but we didn't keep kosher, and it's not far-fetched. And it is darned tasty. Also a fan of cheddar on apple and maple syrup on sausage. I think it comes from my Dad's side of the family and he's from Brooklyn.
  19. Based on how TS reviews other establishments, I think it is warranted to take a rating down a half star for the need to wait hours in line, as it takes away from the dining "experience." As I said in the other thread, since he'll dock a restaurant half a star for decor, why not in this instance? And it's HIS opinion on decor that docks the rating. Not all individuals agree with his assessments on interiors, and not all agree that waiting in a line such as RL demands, is a downside to an evening out. FWIW, personally, I don't agree that decor should knock a star rating if a restaurant's food is exceptional so it miffs me to see him give 4 stars in this situation. I would not choose to pay extra for someone to wait in line for me, and dining out is difficult enough that I would not line up for hours to do so. That's what makes horse races, as they say.
