Toast thanks to Mrs DanielK with cream cheese, lox, capers, onion. Wow is that bread good!
Actually, my daughter (the little girl in my profile avatar, now 20) made the boule!

Wings there still rock.
Pro tip: for takeout, order by the quart instead of bowl. Much cheaper per serving, and you probably have most of the stuff they're going to throw on in the house anyway.

Post your latest restaurant meal.
So far we have done Bob's Shanghai, A&J, CSNY Pizza, Spice Xing, and Hard Times Cafe. Tomorrow is Yekta Kabob.

Obviously postponed for now. Since the close date is June 14, I hope they will open again before closing for good.

You don't want me to make you that jealous, I assure you.

I did not manage to get a table off the waitlist. Sad.
Wish I would have seen this earlier. On social media today they announced that they would open tables at Metier, and I saw at least one walk-in.

My wife and I got engaged at Grapeseed, and our first date was there. But we didn't meet on DR.

For real. We met at the bar of Grapeseed drinking half price bottles of excellent wine.

That dinner was sold out within seconds of the email going out.
Luckily, I was able to grab a table off the waitlist at 6pm. Anyone else going?

Only location in the immediate area is in Tyson’s Corner Center, and it is the best brewpub in that mall (at least, it’s the only brewpub I remember in the mall).
Annapolis I believe is still open.

Just FYI - we can't make it this Sunday after all. Enjoy!

I went once with DanielK and I was not blown away with the dry pot but the 'regular' food we got was good. I'd go back with a group.
As Tim's review mentions, they don't provide much help in assembling a dry hot pot, and it's too easy to fumble the combination. But when you get it right, it's addictive.

Does Wang Manor have the same ownership as Big Wang's Cuisine? This is an expansion and a name change, with the same ownership, right?
Yes. They grabbed the lease on the adjacent storefront and renovated.

I can do 3/1 or 3/15, but only dinner.

That's a fair assessment. It was a very good meal, but it should have been a great meal.

It's mostly forgotten, but Ann Cashion was the opening chef at Austin Grill.

I just created a topic for the farewell event here.

After a little over 8 years, Jon and Ankur are closing Pizza CS to make way for the Wegmans development. They still crank out some of the finest Neopolitan pizzas in the DC area.
Please come help us give them a Rockwellian farewell on Sunday March 29th at 2p.
Since they're so fast with orders, it makes sense for people to just order on their own, and I'm sure there will be a lot of sharing going on. I'll order a few salads and nibbles when I check in to supplement, and of course there will be some donuts and ice cream.
I told them we could get 20-30 people, so don't make me a liar. RSVP here, and I will PM you my phone number for day-of communications.
Cheers!

This diner can eat lobster carpaccio many more times.

Nearly 20 years ago when they opened, they were the tops for cue in the area.
They have slipped, but more than that, the market just zoomed past them.

I agree with all of your "incredibles" save two: fried taro cake and leek & shrimp dumpling, both of which I think are inferior to their counterparts at China Garden (Rockville) and New Fortune (Gaithersburg), my regular haunts.
Everything else was pretty spot-on.
I think it falls a sliver short in quality next to China Garden, for about 25% less money. But CG is 10 minutes from my house, and VK is 30, so I'm unlikely to return to VK unless I'm in that hood, or Dean calls again and says he's ready to go check out the things we missed (BBQ, fry cart, chicken feet, tripe ...)

Kids welcome? Not sure if I'll be in town, but if so, would love to come.
Absolutely. Bringing my kid in every month was how I got him a job there one summer!
I still think they have more of my money in the long run.

This topic is one of the most popular topics on the board, if not the most popular, since inception, and was started by one of the original handful of members, JPW.
I'm sorry to post that after a long and brutal battle with cancer, and one final sip of Patricia Green Pinot Noir, JPW passed away yesterday. He leaves behind an amazing wife and two teen daughters. The world is a smaller place today.
Fuck Cancer.
