  1. DJT chimes in... Trump blasts 'fake' NYT story on US opposition to breastfeeding measure by Max Greenwood of The Hill
  2. So, can someone please tell me how our government justifies this? "Trump Administration's Opposition to Breastfeeding Resolution Sparks Outrage" by Ed Pilkington of The Guardian What has our nation become? Isn't this a form of fascism? This is clearly an effort to put corporate profits over the health of babies. Does anyone see the irony in that?
  3. You can order it whole from Whole Amazon.
  4. I get the impression that Dershowitz is just a shit-stirrer in the same vein as Hannity or any of the other cable news blowhards.
  5. Dinner here Saturday night was underwhelming. The deviled eggs tasted like they had been waiting in the fridge for a day too long. The fried chicken was tasty, and a generous portion, but the hanger steak I ordered was brought to me rarer than rare and it was a 4 or 5 oz portion at best. I've never been served such a tiny steak. When I sent it back because it was under-cooked, the same sliced steak was returned to me after having been warmed up. Was it wrong to expect a new steak?
  6. If you have colon cancer in your family, it's especially important. My paternal grandfather had it and managed to survive. Twelve years ago when I told my doctor about my family's history, he told me to get one done. I was only 40. Sure enough, they removed a couple of polyps. If I had waited until 50, who knows what might have happened. The procedure itself is no big deal-- the prep the night before kinda sucks, butt it's a small price to pay for peace of mind.
  7. I take my 8 year-old here and she enjoys the house-made Cherry Fizz soda. If you can get there by 5:30, or even 6 on a weekday, you won't have to wait long-- especially now that the outside tables are available.
  8. Just wanted to say that I've been back to Frankly's a handful of times now and I love the joint. The staff is always friendly and I've yet to have a pizza I didn't thoroughly enjoy.
  9. It's been a long, long time, but I love the Greek islands. Naxos, in the Cyclades, has a lovely main town and some beautiful beaches, but the thing that's most memorable to me is renting a moped and heading up into the hills inland. Not a tourist in sight. I got stuck in goat herding traffic at one point, but made it up to a village where I had lunch at a taverna. The owner was so surprised to see a tourist that he gave me a liter Seven-up bottle filled with his homemade Retsina. It was a blast just getting lost up there. Also, while touristy as hell, Santorini is still worth the visit. Where else can you have dinner on a terrace overlooking a caldera?
  10. He had back to back strikeouts in the 1st, 2nd, and 5th before striking out 3 with 9 pitches in the 6th. He stuck out a total of 13 in 8 innings. Amazing.
  11. It's been close to 14 years since I've lived on my own and last night I fired up the stove for the first time in my new swinging bachelor pad. Mixed greens dumped on plate. Annie's Goddess dressing drizzled on. Seared a hanger steak to medium rare (oops, I don't have any oil yet. oops, I don't have salt or pepper yet). Slapped it on top of the greens. Stood near the sink and ate it up in 5 minutes. Watched Caps game. Fell asleep on the couch.
  12. If they're as good as they were several years (decades?) ago, Faidley's in Lexington Market has the best I've had. http://www.faidleyscrabcakes.com/
  13. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who is paying for an NRA membership has blood on their hands.
  14. “There are different sides to it.” “Finger-pointing won’t help.” “Immigration has to be legal.” “He’s the best president we’ve had in a long time.” This reminds me of good ol' Mayor James "Ooker" Eskridge and his insistence that global warming isn't destroying Tangier Island. A big chunk of the demographic that voted for DJT, will be hurt the most by his pandering policy decisions (see coal miners). And somehow, he won't be to blame.
  15. Just thought I'd share a chicken story. When I got out of college I got a gig managing a data entry department for a company that handled coupon fulfillment. It was in Salisbury MD where Purdue is headquartered. They had a deal where you could send in proof of purchase and they'd send you back a coupon for a buck off your next purchase. Well, people being what they are, there were some assholes who would send in the juicy wrapper with the price label on it. Didn't even bother to rinse it off. You can imagine the smell. My employees would refuse to work on any Purdue job-- I'd have to pay people extra.
  16. There's an informative 3-part podcast series on Radiolab about the deadly impact of border control policy. Back in the late 80's and early 90's, the typical strategy for getting across the border was for hundreds of immigrants to bum rush the border agents in or near a city. The example they used was the El Paso/Juarez City border where at one point thousands were crossing each day. Many of the illegals would be caught and returned to Mexico, but most would get through. Over time, the border patrol was beefed up and walls were improved and extended. This dramatically cut down on these crossings which caused illegals to take the much more dangerous route across the remote Sonoran Desert where there were no walls. Since that time, it's estimated that thousands if not tens of thousands of immigrants have died of exposure in the desert. The INS has maintained that only a relatively small number of people die each year because they don't find many bodies. It was thought that the bodies would be preserved in the dry air and would take months to decompose, but a team of scientists discovered that a body can be picked clean by vultures in a matter of days. Ants then come along and consume the bones thereby causing any evidence to simply disappear. Our government has turned a blind eye to this-- out of sight, out of mind. 45's pandering proposals will only make this problem worse. It's a real humanitarian crisis. But, you know... MAGA! 17. The NRA said guns will be banned during a Pence speech. Parkland students see hypocrisy. by Alex Horton of the Washington Post “You may disagree … but in my opinion the very people that claim to protect the 2A should never host an event that requires disarming the good guys. Sad. No excuses for this … it makes us look stupid,” the commenter said. Nah, you were stupid from the start.
