  1. On Saturday, in Arlington, a Montana festival offering beer, bourbon and rocky mountain oysters.
  2. I have a lunch meeting, sorry. Last week of work, however, so maybe next time...
  3. If I can get away from work, I will be there!
  4. Well I will be there today... my friend is throwing the first pitch!
  5. Totally different to the UK, then, where waitstaff are entitled to minimum wage, same as everyone else, and that's around 5 pounds, I believe, which is about $10. Tips are sometimes given to individual staff, sometimes split evenly, depending on the restaurant.
  6. I enjoyed my meal there this week, although I think it was particularly good because we were charged for so little! We didn't pay for any alcohol, or two of the mains. Some of the alcohol was intentionally complimentary, the rest we weren't so sure of. The sea bass on oxtail was truly fantastic. ETA: the mains (well, actually they were 'small dishes') were complimentary because they were substitutes. They didn't have what we had ordered, but we didn't sit down until 9pm. Three of us were offered three glasses of wine to taste (it was Sunday, so they do offer some sort of wine tasting) and then a comp glass of our individual favourites. I would imagine that these were the remainder of the Sunday night wine tasting. The restaurant was pretty empty.
  7. I went this week, and found the food to be very good, if a little salty. Particularly noteworthy were the filet mignon and the garlic beef. I loved the cheese puffs, and the bananas, and we enjoyed the salad bar, particularly the huuge parmesan. It was expensive, and possibly a little rushed, but we didn't sit down until 9.30, which is late for DC!
  8. Seven of us went for dinner here on Friday night. The crowd of people by the door suggested that lots of people were waiting to eat, but luckily they held our reservation even though we were half an hour late (we rang to warn them). The crabcakes were very good, very meaty and tasty. It was just what we wanted-perfect for the family who had just flown in from the UK.
  9. I know that, I learned pretty quickly that you even tip for drinks at the bar (assuming you buy them yourself ) and dad knows now!
  10. We ate at Etete on Saturday night (great food-first time any of us had eaten Ethiopian and we loved it), and I believe that we tipped 10%, which is standard in the UK. The waitress came over to ask if the service was ok, because the tip wasn't much.
  11. My family were visiting me in DC for a week, so I took the opportunity to make reservations Central on Monday night. I'm so pleased I did, we all loved it! We all enjoyed the space, particularly the wine cellar and the bathrooms! The service was outstanding. Our table was booked for 9pm, so it wasn't overly busy when we went in, and our waiter, Timothy, could not have been more friendly or helpful. He was very enthusiastic about the food, which is always good. And the food was perfect. I ordered the tuna burger, which I enjoyed very much, but my sister had the shrimp burger which was even better. The potato crisp-things on the top of the burgers were great-a perfect crunch My dad's chicken pot pie was delicious, full of vegetables, but he couldn't finish it, although he tried hard! The burger and the shrimp were equally good. We ordered a side of fries, as we had chosen salad with our burgers, and we were particularly pleased we had because that meant we could dip them into the homemade mayo, which was outstanding. Despite being very full, we ordered dessert too, largely so that my mum could have a plate of cheese. We split the cheese, the kitkat bar and a pear sorbet between 5 of us. All were fantastic. They loved the kitkat bar, and the ice cream that went with it. Timothy recommended the pear sorbet, and as a devoted pear fan I had to order it. It was incredible, it tasted like biting into a pear! We all went away very happy. Oh, I should also add, the glasses of wine my parents ordered with their cheese were complimentary.
