  1. We've been watching with expectant eyes the past couple of time that we've driven by the location. Our son doesn't remember going to the Arlington location a couple of years ago so he's excited as well and of course, my wife can't wait. I won't be making pizza at home on Fridays for family movie night in the fall...
  2. I lived nearby Greek Town during that time in my life so ate there all the time of course. One of my fondest winter memories was being in line outside the Parthenon, and the wait staff would give shots of ouzo to help with the cold and the wind. Down the street was Maxwell Street where everyone would go after hours to grab a polish sausage, greasy fries, and a can of soda! Those were the days when eating after a party night in the middle of the night would be okay the next day. 🤣
  3. Pizzeria Due was definitely a favorite, more than Uno, when I lived in Chicago for a year in the late 1980s. My guilty pleasure was Giordano's in the Greek town location and ate many meals there and take out. During the winter months when it's freezing outside having a stuffed pizza helps a great deal with dealing the cold wind from the lake! I ordered many years ago since haven't been to Chicago since 2006 and my motivation was nostalgic.
  4. Deangold, we're on the same page in terms of dining indoors and putting together another relief package. However, Fairfax County opened up to Phase II on Friday and some people will eat indoors. Yesterday was my shopping day and driving around I saw many people eating outside of restaurants. Unfortunately, there are people who seem to be going back to "normal living' in the activities. I'm not trying to judge people who do eat inside at restaurants but wondering what the experience would be like and how things have changed for them. Since we have high risk people in our household, we're pretty much be under the same conditions for the foreseeable future. However, we're hearing from extended family and friends that are loosening restrictions and even traveling for the summer to isolated locations.
  5. As restaurants open up for indoor sitting in the area, I wanted to ask if anyone has actually done it. Going out yesterday for a shopping day to many locations for groceries and other items, there seemed to be a wide range of people using masks or not. What was your experience? Did you feel safe? How did the food rate to previous visits?
  6. Actually shipping Chicago deep dish or stuffed pizzas to DC metro area costs ~$60 for two pizzas. Has to be 2 day shipping with dry ice and usually they only do it during weekdays. Never used Goldbelly but you can directly ship from various Chicago pizzerias. I've done Giordano's many years ago.
  7. Lolli and Pops, the candy store in Tysons Corners Mall has many Kit Kats favors such as green tea or matcha. They used to have other countries candy like the UK's Cadbury, too.
  8. Yes it's a great show. I made a thread years ago. Actually there is a Japanese version before the made for Netflix seasons and they made a film for theaters as well. And there are Korean and Chinese versions of the concept.
  9. My wife said she needed to talk with me. I thought it was something serious, but apparently she wanted to discuss where we should plan to visit when it's safe to travel. We decided on Hawaii. Are people daydreaming of future trips? And if so where?
  10. Are you using some kind of planter system or just a regular pot? Wife and son want to do that on our deck but haven't had the time to research it.
  11. I finalize convinced my wife we needed it and it's been good. Some things are above our son's age, he's six but they both have enjoyed the National Geographic shows especially on the US National Parks. We're just wrapping up Avatar: The Last Airbender series and bought Scoob a couple of weeks ago for his birthday. Totally loved it! He's already rewatched it, 3 or 4 times. In hindsight should have signed up for the Disney+, Hulu and ESPN bundle. Oh well! Thinking about Viki which is an Asian service since been watching a lot of Korean shows. Three months of home cooking has taken its toll. I've had to limit my wife's baking on the weekends since I'm the dishwasher and all those pans! 🤪 It wouldn't be so bad if it was just one pan but she will approach it as a baking day and have 2-3 things baking at the same time. Those days my hands need some serious Kiehl's lotion treatment!
  12. I sympathize with you, a couple of our household members, my parents, are in the high risk category. It does drive our choices in regards to food and exposure. Unfortunately, we will need to be more diligent than some for much longer. However, three months of cooking and cleaning are taking a toll. Your restraint is admirable since this is a public health safety issue.
  13. Unfortunately, Deangold, I have seen similar situations occurring over the past couple of weeks during my shopping trips. Fatigue, carelessness or simply not caring anymore, any of them could be the reason. Hopefully, the summer won't increase the transmission of the virus.
  14. Sorry to hear that Zgast, hopefully the window of time will be longer and they will get enough business to continue. Some of my relatives are in the food business and delivery ones have been doing well actually almost like normal and the sit down restaurants are in various states of struggle. Emotionally it's hard to lose a tie to a place that is like a home outside of home.
  15. Ledo's is great local pizza however still miss the original Delphi location. It was just such a dump with lot of character and heart. Recalled my 70s childhood idea of pizza restaurant. I've been getting tired of the same toaster oven or big oven pizza at home as well so ordered a 12" BK carbon steel pan to try. Sur la Tab has had discounts of 30-40% off. Unfortunately, recent articles are suggesting that they will end in bankruptcy.
  16. Thanks for the comparison Zgast! He's at the age and mental comprehension where some of those things are ok but others are not. It's strange how some things he still doesn't want to watch like Toy Story for example. He's always said that it's a bit scary how 'toys' like his can talk and move. On the other hand, watching Phantom Menace, he will say, we don't need to cover his eyes for the Duel of Fates section. As a family we watched the first three Harry Potter films but my wife and I have only been reading, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, to him since it's easier to skip problematic passages as Rowling's writing becomes more teenager/adult as the series progresses.
  17. Ledo's pizza was our first foray into carry-out dining since the quarantine began and it was for our son's birthday. However, my wife and I felt it was challenging removing the pizza from the boxes and then running it through the oven at 400 degrees for 5 minutes to insure it was properly 'disinfected'. We have been making pizza at home for Friday night family movie/pizza night and it's easier all the way around. All that being said, it was a good change of pace to have the smoked mozzarella and sweet tomato sauce in the square shape that Ledo's is known for. Thanks for the update on the ProFish order. I tried to stop by Organic Butcher of McLean to pick up some seafood, however there was a line of ten plus at the moment in time. It seems like a large section of new people have heard about it and/or there was a run on beef and pork due to the recent news articles on the supply chain having issues. I will keep ProFish in mind if we do a direct door to door order for seafood.
  18. We did sign up for it and have been using it on the weekends. Last night our son wanted to watch Star Wars, A New Hope. Otherwise we've been watching Avatar, The Last Airbender with him as a daily family show after dinner. Have you ever watched Star Wars Clone Wars? Wondering if it's ok for a 6 year old. Other than that, we signed up for Epix, my wife loves the British dramas, so Belgravia, has become her guilty pleasure. It's funny though how much the theme music sounds like Downton Abbey!
  19. Prices are on the higher end and wondering about the quality of the fish. Dracisk, could your friend say if there is counterpart locally that they would be similar to? Thanks for the offer to help!
  20. Good to know. We've been making the trip out there for many years usually for special occasions and definitely for the holidays. --- Knead Wine (Keithstg)
  21. Field & Main and Hunters Head are both good options. Haven't heard of Middleburg Tennis Club or been to it, is that an old fashioned club or new restaurant? Red Truck bakery is closed from my wife told me when we were searching for open bakeries.
  22. Tonight is Family Movie night. We still have some mozzarella I picked up last weekend which should be good, so it's home made pizza night, too. Anybody using Disney+? Thinking about finally signing up as we've gone thru our movie selections on Netflix and Prime.
