  1. A note to everybody: To let ourselves and our employees enjoy a little time off this summer, Pupatella will only be open for dinner starting this week. We are planning to get back to the normal schedule in several weeks.
  2. Pupatella now has a new LUNCH SPECIAL: Simple Margherita, organic arugula salad and an Italian soda (lemon or orange) for $9. Valid every day at lunch.
  3. Pupatella, a Neapolitan pizzeria located at 5104 WIlson Blvd., Arlington, VA is looking for a LINE COOK to work 11:00am to 2pm Tuesday - Thursday and 5pm to 10pm on Tuesday and Wednesday. Line experience and good knowledge of English are a must. We are also looking for a CASHIER to work from 5pm to 10pm Tuesday - Thursday. Must speak excellent English, be polite, tidy, and have experience with customer service. Please apply with your resume in person on Wednesday and Thursday from 2pm to 4pm. No phone calls. You can e-mail us at pupatella10@gmail.com
  4. We got totally mobbed for lunch today...I knew the Post was popular, but damn! I wonder what the dinner will be like?
  5. Aaah, so you are that friend in the car that refused to wait...:-) I remembered your friend after she left. Avoid the time between 6 and 8pm if you want to be served quickly or order on the phone or online. Lunch is always the best bet. Although the last couple of weeks have been even busier than normal as many people are on vacation, and everyone is bringing their visiting families. So maybe it won't be like this anymore in the new year. But then the Washington Post came and took pictures the other day, I don't know what and when they will write, but it might bring more people. No Armenian pies???? WTF
  6. Way way too many online and phone orders - the phone basically does not stop ringing. We just can't keep up! Please stop telling about us to your friends Let's keep our little place a secret...
  7. It's a war! I find this LA critic story highly amusing. Schadenfreude, perhaps. On the other side, this lady's popularity will only increase from the incident. So will Red Medicine's. Everybody loves a good public fight!
  8. We love this place too. The croissants are some of the best in the area (and also the butteriest), the pecan buns are sticky and moist and their savory breads are the best than any bakery I've been too. The scones and the muffins are much better at Northside Social.
  9. Glad everybody is enjoying our pizza! Yes, we'd like to be open everyday too, but that means having other cooks making pizzas sometimes - something that Enzo would just not allow. He is a major control freak and a perfectionist, but I guess that's why the pizzas are so good.
  10. To myself. It's my birthday. Getting old sucks. Anastasiya.
  11. Sorry to hear that. We have many high chairs available - we put them all in the back near the bathroom. Next time ask us - we 'll be happy to set it up for you. Hope to see you next time!
  12. When we had our pizza truck in Arlington, we had to pay exactly the same taxes as restaurants - I'm surprised to learn that DC is different.
  13. Thank you everybody! How can we thank you for all the love? We must run some kind of a DonRocks folks only special. Let me think...
  14. Glad you liked it, hopsing! We've worked hard to perfect our crust, I think it's had great improvements lately.
  15. You're getting old, Edan... We'd love to re-connect, complain about the pains of new restaurant opening and discuss those leopard spots, lol
  16. Oh my, what a difficult day we had today. We want to apologize to everyone that came for the A/C problem. Waiting in line for 1/2 hour with no A/C is no fun at all. Thank you everybody for your patience. On the plus side, we're training to make doughnuts - ask for them soon! They'll be better than what we had in the food cart. P.S. Had a loud complaint from a barefoot customer about the service....Yes, you know who you are, I know you read this forum. Dude, next time you decide to complain about the service in a restaurant, please put some shoes on.
  17. There is always room for a another great Neapolitan pizzeria :-). We don't think that we are very different in the product we offer, the menu is similar (although Orso has a bigger menu) we both got the exact same (the best in the world!) wood-fired pizza oven shipped from Naples. I am positive we'll be getting mostly the same ingredients for pizzas, from the same purveyors. Orso, though, from what we can tell - is a nicer, bigger, expensive sit-down place, whereas we are very casual and inexpensive. In Orso, you'll pay the higher price for the service, whereas at Pupatella the service is pretty much non-existent, it's all just about the food. I bet you one thing tough - both us and Orso will be filled with families with small kids :-) We (Pupatella) actually think that it is good to have more Neapolitan pizzerias in the area. Yes, we all get competitive, but we also all help each other by increasing customer's knowledge and appreciation for true Pizza Napoletana. We all do our part to educate customers, and our success depends very much on how well we explain what we are actually trying to do and why Neapolitan pizza really is divine. People always see the world through their past experiences, and people that have never tried pizza in Naples tend to expect something similar to their past pizza experience in the US or even Italy. But Neapolitan pizza is not only different from American pizza, it is also different from pizza you get in other parts of Italy. One can drive three hours outside of Naples to Rome and find a completely different pizza there, made very differently. 2Amys' had it the hardest staring out - back then very few people in the area understood what Neapolitan pizza is all about, but now the public education has increased dramatically and people come to new Neapolitan pizzerias knowing what to expect. DC is becoming a great pizza town!
  18. We wanted to thank everybody for coming and enjoying our pizza. We felt so lucky and fortunate that you came to the restaurant last couple of days. It is a scary thing to open a restaurant and you guys give us confidence that everything will be alright. Enzo & Anastasiya
  19. How, nothing has been posted for a while, on this one, eh? Unfair. We had the most delicious rolls at Matuba on Columbia Pike in Arlington last night. I believe all three are specials, so won't last long. The first one was "spicy tuna roll deep-fried". Spicy tuna rolled up in sea weed, dunked in tempura batter and deep-fried. And then covered in rice and another layer of tuna (raw). Spicy mayo drop on top. Oh My God. The second one was called, I believe, "Salmon Tempura roll". No rice in this roll, other than a tiny bit to make sea weed sheet stick together. Beautiful presentation. Salmon and avocado rolled up and then deep-fried. The third one was "White Tiger Roll", which also featued some kind of tempura. Ah, I love everything deep-fried. Oh, and their sea weed salad is much better than most places.
  20. Don, Daniel and Edan - Thank you guys for the support and your nice words. It means a lot to us coming from you. Don - sorry for the wait. We became extremely busy ever since that article in the Post came out, and Friday is our busiest day. But you're right - we should bemore realistic about the wait time with the customers. I would not recommend coming later than 1:30 though - we now to sell out of pizza by then. We are working on increasing our output, but for right now - we are just trying to hang on and keep up with all this. Let's just say, wow, we really didn't anticipate such demand. Daniel - we missed you today! Edan - we never had rice balls with the pig insides in Naples, we usually had ground beef or pork. Or wait....we THINK it was ground pork...Ha! Anyway, we are going to start making them with ground pork as well (in addition to the veg version), at least until we can find us some ground pork organs! Pupatella
  21. Thank you all for your feedback and complements. I am so happy you guys enjoyed the food! We'd love to be open till 8pm, but right now we can't physically do it, as we need to do all the prep work in the evenings. I am waiting for the cart to become more popular and generate more cash flow so that we could afford to hire somebody to help us do all the prep and then we will be open for dinner as well. Thanks again for your support, guys! Pupatella.
  22. Team, We have been reading this forum for a long time and found it very helpful in enhancing our dining experience. Now, me and my partner Enzo Algarme have opened our own food establishment and want to invite you guys to check it out. Enzo, who is from Naples, Italy, worked in the kitchen of the renown "Il Pizzaiolo del Presidente" (certified by Verace Pizza Napoletana) in Naples, where he learned how to make authentic Neapolitan specialties, which we are now making here, in Arlington, Virginia. Some things, like the Neapolitan Fried Calzone, you can't find anywhere else in this area. We also make Palle di Riso (crunchy rice balls stuffed with peas, veggie crumble and cheese), Panzarotti - potato croquettes stuffed with mozzarella, Neapolitan-style pizza (we do not have a wood-burning oven, but use the same recipe and the ingredients as pizzerias in Naples). The food we serve is the authentic Neapolitan STREET food, just like you find on the streets of Naples. Our food establishment is a STREET CART, not a restaurant, so the prices are more than reasonable. We have been open for about 1 week in the neighbourhood of Ballston, in Arlington, VA just outside the Metro station, at the corner of Stuart and 9th streets. We are only open Mon-Fri for breakfast and lunch right now, from 8 to 3:30, but soon will be open until 8pm. Come to give us a shot! Anastasiya and Enzo pupatella.com myspace.com/pupatella1pizza
