  1. I've read he and Michelle are big fans of Mexican food.
  2. I'm a huge fan of this place and have been going for years. I've had both the pizza and subs - not a big fan of the pizza. I typically get the cheese steak, hamburger sub, or the chicken cheese steak. All really good. I miss the days I used to be able to walk to it - now I have to drive from DC, but it's well worth it.
  3. I ate there last nite and it was pretty good. It is what it is - a very good take out burger place. It's the next iteration of Five Guys. I got the Smokehouse with Vermont Cheddar, bacon, fried vidalia onions, and bbq sauce. My only gripe was the portion size with the fries and onion rings. My party of 4 got a large fries and an order of onion rings to share, but it was way too little food. I definitely liked the various mayo's, especially the chipotle mayo and the old bay mayo. The line wasnt bad. They had people waiting outside until the inside line died down. Little wait, but it's popular, have to expect that. I'm torn though as to which new burger place is better. The burger at Ray's Hell was massive, really juicy, with great flavor. Literally they are grinding tenderloin into burgers. At GSE, it's premade patties, but the finished product is pretty good - the sauces and the fries/o-rings really complete the meal. Give me a burger from Ray's Hell, and some o-rings with chipotle mayo and a toasted marshmallow milkshake from GSE, and I would be all set.
  4. I went on Saturday. No question, one of the best, if not THE best burgers I have ever had. The burgers are huge. I got it cooked medium, diablo style, with grilled onions, roasted garlic, charred jalapenos, and Ray's Hell sauce. Really good. My bun disintegrated on me, but that's just a function of the fact that I also loaded up with extra tomatoes and ketchup. Sidebar - I love juicy very ripe tomatoes. Not too many places can do that anymore, I guess it's a function of timing when you get them/serve them/etc. Ray's tomatoes were perfect. The kind I just want to eat like an apple with some salt sprinkled on it. I had the draft root beer also, pretty tasty. Corn and watermelon were a nice touch too. Michael, you have done it again. Congrats.
  5. Best news in a long time - can't wait to go. The vegetarian wife is just going to have to enjoy her meal of watermelon and rootbeer. BTW - Michael might be the coolest proprietor ever. Amazing restaurants AND quotes Clipse? Come on now. Va Beach represent.
  6. Just went to Ray's tonite for the first time since they just after they opened way back in the day. It was a swift kick in my butt to remind me to eat here more often. Such a great meal for an amazing price. The Sunday three course special is an unbelievable deal. I went went with the $25 option. Started with the onion soup - great flavor, just the right amount of cheese. Too often, onion soup is ruined by the giant layer of cheese on top. Ray's did it right - just the necessary sprinkling. I then had the Sirloin Diablo - amazing steak served with chipotle sauce, sauteed garlic, and grilled onions. That steak alone is worth the $25. For dessert I had the chocolate caramel cake. Perfect ending. As much of a pain it is to drive there to get the walk in reservation (esp for someone like me who lives in upper NW DC), once you eat here, all is right in the world.
  7. Went with a big group last nite, and overall I think it was good. I think for the price though, it wasn't really worth it. With drinks, we paid about $120 per couple and for that price I want my socks knocked off to come back. The knitty gritty: I started with the cheese steak sliders - the order comes with three, one based on Pat's (cheez whiz), one based on Geno's (provolone), and a third one that I cant remember, but it was with marinara. Very good - a must order. Others with me got french onion soup, matzo ball soup, and various salads and all were good, especially the matzo ball. For entree, I got the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and biscuit. Eh. Chicken was good, but not THAT good, the potatoes were very thin, almost seemed like instant potatoes. The biscuit was hard as a rock. Other folks with me got steak, pizza, tuna, duck - all good, but again, nothing with any "wow" factor. I have read reviews in the past about iffy service, but ours was great. Very attentive. I have heard good things about the burger, so I might go back for lunch to try that, but other than that, I don't think I will be back.
  8. Hello everyone, I'm Adam. I've been in the area for about 9 years now, and like everyone else, I love food. Come to think of it, I would go to a restaurant for every meal if money was no object. Why am I here? Pretty much so I can hang out and share thoughts with people that REALLY love food. I think a few years ago Washingtonian readers rated Outback as one of the best steakhouses in the area - that pissed me off to no end, and I learned to take all these reviews that I read online with a grain of salt. But now I found DR - a place with opinions that I can learn to trust. I love all kinds of food, from fancy to down-and-dirty. There is no better steak than Capital Grille. There is no better chicken finger than Crystal City Sports Pub. Nice to meet everyone!
