  1. Checked the place out last night around 7:45 and there was a long wait. Went back around 8:30 and my friends and I were able to instantly order. I got the Poivre Recommended with Mustard Seed Gouda with mushrooms and onions. YUM YUM. What a great burger! The meat was excellent. My friends had the grilled and diablo, it was love at first bite. I really didn't miss having fries because the Burger was filling and the corn on the side was delish. Finished the meal with some MooRenkos Salted Caramel and Pralines, which was excellent. Can't wait to go back and congrats on the opening!
  2. I went to Vidalia Saturday evening for Restaurant Week. I loved all my dishes. I had the Pork and Beans, Duck Confit, and the Pecan Tart. Unfortunately the Shrimp and Grits were 86ed by the time we got there. The rest of my party's dishes were also wondeful. They had the Citrus Cured Wild Alaskan Ivory Salmon, Tuscarora Pork Charcutière, Bayou Étouffée, Peanut Butter Tart, and Lemon Chess Tart. OMG the Pecan Tart was to die for! Usually you can notice and feel that it's Restaurant Week. However at Vidalia, it didn't feel like it at all! Thank you for a wonderful meal RJ!
  3. I have a reservation to Kinkeads for 2 on Friday (18th) at 8PM that I can't make. Please PM me if you're interested.
  4. I went there for Bethesda Restaurant Week. Overall, I thought everything was pretty good. For the appetizer we had some buttery and garlicky goodness-- escargots. We were sopping up the sauce with their bread when we finished the tender little snails. 3 of us ordered the steak frites and the other ordered the pork chop. Steaks were a decent size but the cut was definitely not filet mignon, perhaps top sirloin? And Definitely Not Ray's!!! I had some trouble chewing because of the bits of tendon even when I asked for it medium rare. The pork chop with potatoes was really good. The potato had a vinegar butter flavoring with small bits of bacon mixed in was incredible. Dessert was suprisingly better than I expected it to be. The serving for the chocolate mouse was huge. The creme brulee was done right. It's a French restaurant I wouldn't mind going back to, which is very rare for me to say!
  5. Heading up to Ray's tonite to impress a New York foodie, soon to be DC foodie, with some good steak. Is the Chateaubriand special still going on or is there another one for the month of June? I can wait to get a slice of key lime pie for dessert!
  6. Stacy's Coffee Parlor is great. The customer service is wonderful there. My roommate plays on Wednesday nights for open mike sometimes. The cupcakes are good and decorated immaculately. I think the frosting is alittle too sweet for my taste, but better than the yucky buttercream frostings. They are great with a glass of milk. I think you have to go a little early for those cupcakes because the last time I went around 7, they were all sold out. From what I know Le Cupcake doesn't have a website.
  7. I'll let you guys know if the wings at Hooters Hotel and Casino (Las Vegas) are up to par with their restaurants when I stay there the first week of April.
  8. I went to Pauli Moto for lunch today. I had the mushroom, asparagus, and beef tenderloin robatayaki. They were all cooked very well with a subtle soy/teriyaki flavored sauce. It came with 3 small sauce dishes of ginger sesame oil sauce, a light soy sauce that had the flavoring of bonito, and a spicy mayo sauce. I also had the tempura sushi which I thought was very plain because it only had tempura shrimp and asparagus with no sauce. The tempura was very oily. My coworker had the new style sashimi which was salmon and white fish. THe sauce was very oily and the sashimi was slightly cooked as if it was nuked in a microwave. I love seared tuna, but the texture of this nuked sashimi was definitely not going for me. The pluses were attentive service and I liked the decor of the place. Not sure if I want to go back to the place to try out the main entrees...
  9. I used to go there for lunch time to time when I worked around the area. Haven't tried the truly Malaysian dishes because I always order the same dish. My favorite dish there is Hainanese Chicken Rice. The best part of the dish is the sweet soy sauce mixed with rice and fried onions on top. I've tried their fried rice with the fried egg and lettuce on top. Their prawn mee noodle soup is good for a cold day, but oily.
  10. Thanks for the help! I was thinking a different place for desserts to change up the atmosphere a bit to a more romantic setting. However, I will definitely let him know that desserts at Zaytinya are great as well. My favorite desserts: Black and White Martini Shake,Cafe Mozu Hazelnut Bars & Creme Brulee, Corduroy Baked Alaska, 2941 Green Tea Mochi, Kotobuki
  11. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions to restaurants or cafes for just desserts in DC. In addition, which restaurants are reservation friendly for just desserts. I'm helping out a friend who will be taking his date to Zaytinya for dinner so somewhere in that close vicinity. Zola? Rosa Mexicano? Indebleu? Thanks!
  12. Kimchi is definitely a good way to tell. I also look at the rest of the banchan to see the variety and how complex the side dishes are. Kimchi chigeh and Daenjang (miso) chigeh are also very good indicators.
  13. no "Amercanized" bibimbap for you edited. since grover beat me to the post (see above)! extra info: bibimbap was invented to pretty much utilize all unused leftover side dishes in kitchen. who would have thought it would become a gourmet dish in some restaurants?
  14. Monday- Zengo Thursday- Corduroy Going out of town for the weekend so that cuts a lot of days to explore.
  15. my example: people love to have group events at cafe asia. i consider cafe asia pretty mediocre. so i take it for the team. AND THEN BOUNCE TO KOTOBUKI. I've already done this twice. GUILTY AS CHARGED!
  16. I went to Hawaii a couple of years ago with my roommates who are Hawaiian natives. Here are the local eats you should definitely check out if you are interested must try eats. Rainbow Drive In- Plate lunches with Rice, Meat, and Macaroni Salad. Zippy's- Considered the best Chili Cheeseburger Paradise- Yummy Burgers and you have a choice of many toppings! Waiola Shaved Ice- THE BEST shaved ice I have ever had. The ice is the texture of fresh powdered snow. Mc D's- Breakfast menu- Portuguese sausage with rice and scrambled eggs. Yeah it's weird but it tastes great and where else can you get this in the US? I loved the sausage so much I brought some back to the states. ABC Store- Spam Masubi Snacks (store)- Sour Patch Kids with li hing, Dried Cherries with li hing, Hurricane Popcorn- popcorn with Furikake and Rice Crackers, mochi cracker with furikake, corn flake cookies, of course Mauna Loa mac nuts- Chocolate Toffee Covered Macs, Kona Coffee Coated Mac Nuts, and Hawaiian Host- Macnut Crunch, Toffee Macs. Oh man... my mouth is watering. I have a major Hawaiian food craving now.
  17. Extraordinary Desserts- The cutest dessert cafe ever and their cakes are wonderful. I believe it's near Balboa Park (sorry my friends took me there). I have linked their website. Local eats- California Burritos- They are burritos stuffed with french fries. It is great after a late night of partying. Ask a local or a UCSD college student and they should know what you are talking about! Acqua Al 2- Authentic Italian. I went to the original restaurant in Florence. The food in Florence was amazing. I haven't been to this on in SD, but I'm sure it would be up to par to it's mother restaurant. Try their Pasta Sampler and Balsamic Steak.
  18. Going there next week for business. Any recommendations? It probably doesn't compare to Vegas, but worth a try! No price range. I'm open for some local mom & pop places to the gourmet! Dessert places or buffets? Thanks!
  19. For Buffets I love to go to Mandalay Bay or Bellagio-Champagne Brunch. Never been to the Paris breakfast buffet, but their regular lunch/dinner buffet wasn't very impressive to me. Picasso at the Bellagio is really nice. The food was really good and the chef was very personable. I would say the type of cuisine is modern French. It's a beautiful place because it is right in front of the fountain show and their are some original Picasso pieces in the Restaurant. Expect to pay at least $100 per person. There's an In'n Out towards the direction of Palms!
  20. I love Seattle and they have some great food! I'm originally from the area so here are my list of restaurants I would suggest to check out. Dahlia Lounge- I agree, the Tuscan Bread Salad is to die for and their Portobello sandwich is great. Wasabi Bistro- go there for some inventive sushi. It's a very happening place and a great place to go on a date. Sea Garden (China Town)- This is some great authentic Chinese food. My family used to go there every weekend. I would recommend their whole crab in garlic. Their congee is really good too. Cedars (UW)- Yummy Indian food. This place is always packed and their Naan is baked fresh. Tikka Marsala anyone? El Gaucho- STEAK. Haven't been there myself, but my best friend raves about this place and she's a major foodie BEST FAST FOOD FISH"N CHIPS- IVARS!!! It is an institution in Seattle. They have really yummy white clam chowder and trust me, this is no Long John Silvers. The fish is lightly breaded and flaky. They fry them on the spot so they always come out nice and hot! I'm getting a craving from just thinking about it. Piroshky Piroshky- Polish Bakery. Wonderful to eat while you are strolling Pike Place Market. Don't remember the name but get the spiral bun with cheese and green onions.
  21. I thought Lario's was suprisingly good for a celeb owned restaurant. The garlic chicken I had was to die for. It was very tender and had the right amount sauce. Mango's- for great mohitos Avalon- supposedly the best Key Lime Pie. However I liked, Joe's key lime pie because it had the graham cracker crust. Joe's is great. If you don't want to eat it at the restaurant, they have the take out option. We did takeout and ate right in the market to the side of the restaurant. Their baked tomatoes with cheese and spinach was to die for. Sides are really big servings. They are also known for their lyonnaise potatoes, but I thought it was just okay.
  22. (Today) Bday Dinner with my Best Friends and Boyfriend at 2941. (Very Excited) (Planning for Sat.) China Garden for Bday Dimsum, Kotobuki for Dinner. Favorite watering holes, but my best friends from out of town have not been there.
  23. For dinner: Planning to broil up some rib eye marinated with italian dressing, sea salt, pepper, and dried italian herbs. Sauteed onions and oyster mushrooms with garlic and a splash of white. Rice Drink: Meridian 2003 Chardonnay best friend is in town.
  24. Cafeteria 560 Lincoln Rd. Miami Beach 305.672.3663 Went there for brunch. Their Chicken and Waffles were amazing. The fried chicken did not have too much batter on it but crunchy and perfectly seasoned. The meat was moist and tender. The waffles were just right and the maple syrup au jus was light adding a delightful subtle compliment to the waffles and the chicken. I was dipping the fried chicken into the maple syrup. With it's contemporary decor and situated in main shopping area, it's a great place to people watch and enjoy the South Beach style. For dessert? Head up to the gellateria nearby, forgot the name but you will know which one I'm talking about because it's bustling with customers.
