  1. My parents hosted 50 for my brother's rehearsal dinner in a private room at Maggianos in Friendship Heights. We are also planning a wedding anniversary dinner there for my parents, probably close to 70 folks. They have several rooms, varying sizes, and great packages. Very affordable. Food is reliable, good and plentiful. Just give their catering group a call or go to their website http://www.maggianos.com/ They made my brother's rehearsal dinner very special.
  2. LOL! That's exactly what we're looking for in the visuals. Something out of a Norman Rockwell painting. The food though should be more than just ham & yams. I have to say that our experience last year at 1789 will be hard to top. With the decorations and the carolers, couldn't have been a more perfect Christmas experience.
  3. Gosh, thanks for your help everyone! I really appreciate your input. I've reviewed the lists and narrowed down our choices to either the Tabard Inn or the Morrison-Clark Restaurant. Never tried either. Comments, insights?
  4. Just called 1789 for reservations Christmas Eve only to discover that they are booked solid. I need a special dining destination, doesn't have to be in D.C. Really enjoyed 1789 last year, the carolers, decorations and of course the food. Would like something comparable with music. Suggestions?
  5. I googled the name of the market to get the address and laughed out loud when what to my wondering eyes did appear but a mentioned in a past DR forum post by CHEESEPOWDER regarding Selectos Latinos ===> "This isn't in ferment everything's requested range, but for anyone else -- Selectos Latinos supermarket is now open in Rockville where Lotte Korean supermarket used to be (11716 Parklawn Dr. near Boiling Brook Parkway). They have masa flour (the kind in the bags like regular flour) and dried corn husks. I also noticed cactus leaves (nopalito) in their produce section. There seemed to be many cheeses in the refrigerated dairy case, but I'm not familiar enough with the cheeses to judge how good their selection is compared to other stores." I would like to add to CHEESE's observations that they also sell a variety of fresh Chorizo at the butcher's counter along with a variety of other interesting items. Oh, and if you visit, check out the seafood counter, the FRESH tortillas and the wonderful selection of FRESH pupusas. Note regarding the Chorizo, mine was marinated for 24 hours in a good Rioja wine, a handful of black peppercorns and bay leaves. Add enough wine to cover the sausages completely and the Chorizo must be fresh. Oh and thanks for making me feel so welcome. I had a wonderful time and felt as if I was reunited with my long lost people. You all rock! Karen Hughes (and no, not that Karen Hughes)
  6. OK, off to find a decent bottle of Rioja for the marinade. Will be contributing about four pounds of fresh, marinated Chorizo. Looking forward to tomorrow ... Cya all there!!!!
  7. Newbie here! Will be the +1 tagging along with Loretta Chi. I'll be bringing along a few bottles of vino to complement the abundance pork products that are planned. I was wondering if anyone would have GRILL space for some fresh, marinated Chorizo. Would need to know by this evening. The sausages would need to marinade at least 24 hours. Looking forward to meeting you all! Karen
