  1. I had lunch at Wildfire on Sunday and was greatly disappointed not only with their menu but their service was well below par. Our waitress forgot to bring our orders out with the substitutions we had made and only refilled the water once. I was surprised given the pedigree of the restaurant's ownership. I would like to go back and give them a chance at redemption for dinner. That being said, those of you going for brunch/lunch on the weekend be advised...the service may not be to your liking but the food will be.
  2. Last weekend, I went exploring in Glover Park and happened upon Alex McCoy's new restaurant, the southern themed The Kitchen. I was pleasantly greeted by an old friend on the wait staff who made some wonderful recommendations. We started with Bloody Mary's, southern style in mason jars. They were perfectly spiced and garnished. Then brunch arrived and things only got better. I had the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was nice and thick with lots of sausage and some REALLY good sage and cheddar biscuits. It was one of the brunch meals I have ever had. The better half had the croque madame which sh
  3. A friend of mine went to Founding Farmers today and this was what she had to say... Service was o.k.....but like you said, not great. The food was very very very salty and I love salt, so that is saying something. They removed the desserts based on some of our comments, and I am glad someone came by to check in. The problem is that the interior is really well done, it has a good open feel to it, so when the food is ehhhh, okay, it is a disappointment. Please tell me that we are just experiencing flukes during the meals we have here...DR, please help!
  4. I know that as a bartender at Enology, I am not necessarily supposed to talk my own place up, but I feel I'd be doing the DR community injustice if I didn't speak to our new menu and the chef that put it together. There are some new and very fun items on there. The Buffalo Frog Legs, the crab deviled eggs and the new steak frites which is now served with a béarnaise sauce are out of this world. Some of the old favorites are still there including the Angus beef sliders and the pesto flatbread. The wine list has changed and for the price is one of the most eclectic and economic lists you will fi
  5. I had lunch yesterday at BLT on "Eye" street and 16th in NW and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the fare. I have had lunch there several times and each time had been underwhelmed. Yesterday, I had the flank steak with Gratin Potatoes and a nice glass of Los Carneros Merlot which were all out of this world. The flank steak by itself was perfectly cooked, wonderfully seasoned and simply delectable. If you work down town and need a great lunch with excellent service and a great price, you cannot go wrong with BLT.
  6. I had brunch at Founding Farmers and sat at the bar. I sat there for 15 minutes before even being acknowledged by the bar staff and it took another thirty before someone took and order and when my food came, it was luke warm (and underwhelming). Is this the norm for this place? I had heard good things and was NOT thrilled. I was wondering if anyone else has had the same unfortunate experience or is this just a one time fluke???
  7. I had the opportunity to go to the tasting that GM Chris Cunningham and Chef David Saffell have put together and for the price, the food is one of the best values in DC. The NEW menu has such wonderfully delightful options like Duck Sliders, Pork Tenderloin with a sauce and creamed corn side that is out of this world in term of taste. I started with a Red Beet Carpaccio that was wonderfully complimented with a light vinagarette and peppered goat cheese and when I thought that the meal couldn't get any better, a dark chocolate torte with raspberry sauce came out to finish me off. All of the ite
