  1. I second the Becks suggestion. Another one (and I admit I have never been to the one in DC but enjoyed the one in NYC) is Kellari Taverna on 14th. The one in NYC is great for medium/large gatherings. Although I have never been to the one here, the food at the NYC was delicious.
  2. 12 year vegetarian here. I have been to all those restaurants and they were all great but I LOVED Cityzen when I had the tasting menu at the bar. If you're not set on a tasting menu Proof has great vegetarian dishes there, their gnocchi is my favorite dish in all of DC.
  3. Went to Churchkey last night and had a great time. My friends and I showed up at about 7, it was busy but there was no wait and throughout the evening it was never uncomfortably crowded. The enormously long bar was about 2-3 people deep, but at the far end of the bar it actually thinned out a lot. Eventually we were lucky enough to snag a table. I tried a couple of the "Fruit and Spice" beers, all very good. I really like that the beer menu includes ABV, where its from and what its served in. Between the three of us we tried the BLT flatbread, the cheese flat bread and the (complimentary, thank you!!!!) cheddar and broccoli flatbread. The cheddar and broccoli was by far the favorite of the three. The cheese flatbread was good, nothing special but hit the spot, but my meat eating friends at the table did not like the BLT flatbread. All agreed that the combination of quail egg, bacon ect. was a great idea but just didn't work out in the end. Service was good, kind of slow at times but understandable considering how busy it was. All in all the experience was great and I will be back soon!
  4. Very belated post... but went to Spider Kelly's maybe 2 weeks ago and found a new black bean veggie burger on the menu! I am not a fan of a grilled portobello mushroom on a bun, so I was eager to try. The burger had a nice amount of spice, very nice flavor and good texture. My vegetarian heart has been won over- a very good veggie pita and a yummy black bean burger, SK is my perfect weeknight spot! I am planning on going back on a tuesday for half priced burgers and a cold beer. Cheers!
  5. Sorry for being so vague, it was very last minute and I wasn't even sure who was coming! We ended up going to Becks and had a fabulous dinner. Thanks to Thor and everyone for being so gracious!
  6. Pricing= not expensive, but moderate is fine... my friend was looking at Brasserie Becks or Blue Duck Tavern but neither panned out. Attire is flexible, they come ready for any occasion. No dietary resitriction to speak of. Any food choice is fine! Mostly we were just looking for a nice place in dc (not RFD or anything) that would be able to accomodate 9 people. Thanks!
  7. I need help finding a spot for 9 people (not all of whom know each other)for dinner in DC, easily accessible by metro. Any suggestions??
  8. I have been to eventide multiple times, all but one experience sitting at the bar enjoying some wine and usually a delicious mushroom burger. My friends and I decided to go the eventide for brunch the other weekend with mixed results. My friend and I had both had the french toast, which had good flavor but was kinda soggy. Another one in my party had the bison sausage, which I forget how it was served, but she really enjoyed it and thought it was a really nice portion. All and all the food was fine. My coffee was served in a french press which is nice and the tea service was lovely. Unfortunately out service was pretty disappointing. Being used to Steve downstairs I admit to being a bit spoiled but it took over ten minutes for anyone to even come over to our table. By the time we got our drinks and the server took our food orders we had been sitting there for over 30 minutes. That was a shame, but hopefully over time this will get better. I still need to try the dinner menu, have only been down in the lounge at night!
  9. My boyfriend and I went to the oval room last weekend and had a great meal. I started out with the Cauliflower soup with aged cheddar, dried apricots and cumin. It was a very good, rich but not heavy. My boyfriend had the shrimp chorizo that he loved and found very unexpected, something I found in my starter as well. For my main meal I had spring pea risotto with fresh morels which was not only delicious but was my first taste of spring! I enjoyed both my dishes, may not have both in that order next time, would likely try the beet salad which I have heard great things about but would absolutely go back for the risotto again. For dessert we had the Hazelnut Decquoise that both my boyfriend and I agreed was like a fabulous snickers bar which is a VERY good thing. Get all the components together and its fabulous. The service was great and the space, which is smaller than I expected, is very nice. We will definitely go back, great experience and very good food.
  10. So my boyfriend and I went to Eventide for the second time since they opened last friday night. We sat at the bar (have not made it to the dining room yet) for some drinks and some eats. We were greeted by Steve at the bar, ordered some drinks and got an order of the fries. The fries were good, not too greasy and pretty crispy ( I am a fan of the crispy fries, not big thick ones) and the fondue that comes with it was not too overwhelming, I really like the truffle flavor. Then we got the olives which are super hot when they come out but once they cool down are scrumptious. After that and a few more drinks we both got mushroom burgers, which were super rich and meaty (and served on a croissant). As a vegetarian I find it hard to get a good veggie burger around the area, and this is easily the best! Perfect bar food, with a really nice salad. We will be back soon!
  11. I live right around the corner from Eatbar and love this place. Drinks are great, and Gina is a treat. Service has always been good, even on the busiest of nights. Atmosphere is great, gets very crowded but never to the point of other places in the area where you can barely move. I like the beet salad (small but good), as well as the black bean hummus. The only gripe I have is that there is no veggie sandwich or entree, aside from that, I think this place is great.
