  1. It is official: according to their website Restaurant Eve will close on June 2. This makes me sad. I live in Old Town and have been going there from the beginning, though only a couple of times per year and less so more recently. We will especially miss the bar. One of the best dishes I have ever eaten was a lobster creme brûlée served many years ago when they had the separate tasting room and bistro format. I hope we can get there a few times before they close.
  2. I agree that the theme is rude and in bad taste. Even the new name is off-putting. I was a semi-regular patron of Poste since it opened and used to work in the neighborhood. It was always in the mix as a place for business lunch/dinners or to meet up with colleagues. I can't imagine suggesting a meeting at "Dirty Habit". Have always been a fan of Kimpton hotels and restaurants in general and like their creativity. The company was sold a year or so ago and I have not been impressed with the changes the new owners have made so far. Most of their hotels in San Francisco, where they got their start, or no longer affiliated with Kimpton since the sale.
  3. It looks like the new location on Belle Haven Road, off the GW Parkway just south of Old Town Alexandria, has opened. That should be a good location for them. Not too much available in that neighborhood.
  4. Are there any wine shops in DC or Virginia that have a good selection of grower champagnes? I have a trip to Reims coming up (Les Crayeres - yay!) and am trying to learn a little more about these hard-to-find wines. If you have any suggestions for any of the small houses that I should visit while there, that would be great, too. My French is weak, DH is english-only. We have managed to communicate alright on other winery visits in France, but do better if there is some English spoken. Many thanks.
  5. Well that is distressing. Your style of cooking is what makes it the Majestic. We will miss it. I do not know what kind of "mass market" they are looking for, but it has always seemed plenty busy when I have been there.
  6. Can you share any details on the "new direction"? Majestic has been one of our local faves since the beginning.
