  2. I commuted for a while by bike when I was living 2 1/2 miles from my job in Rockville. I started my commuting days obeying every stop sign and traffic light I encountered. It was just plain scary dangerous. I was run off the road by a metro bus, winged with a rear view mirror, and blasted with a horn from behind by a driver who sped into the oncoming lane almost crushing me just to get ahead of me 20 feet from a stop sign. This was all in ONE morning commute! So, my traffic law abiding days as a commuted ended very quickly. I did whatever was necessary to make it to and from work in one piece. Sometimes that meant hoping onto the sidewalk to go around corners. sometimes it meant getting the jump when the opposite light turned yellow instead of waiting for my own green. Morning commuters are glassy eyed, on the phone, fully wrapped up in a cup of coffee, or just plain not paying attention. Yes, I have seen a lot of cyclist blow lights and stop signs and riding dangerously. Enforcement of laws should go both ways. But, until it does, it is not always safe as a cyclist to strictly black and white obey all traffic laws. Both sides have extremely valid points. At the end of the day, in a collision between a bike and a car, the car wins. Every time! So, yeah, I will break a couple laws to avoid that collision. Best of Luck all of you commuters.
  3. ok, went to Crust tonight with the wife and daughter. We have waited over a year for this to open since el patio moved and quite frankly I am surprised that it finally did. That being said I was quite pleased with the result. Best patio in the area aside from Addie's. I cannot attest to the authenticiy of "NY style" pizza. It is, however one of the better pizzas in the area. Cs is good, not so much a fan of Matchbox. The crust was a little crispier than I remember a NY pizza being but really good, my wife had a meat lovers, and I got the Bianco with the addition of apple(not something I usually see on a toppings list) and bacon. the combination made for a great fall pizza. I am a fan of a well made white pizza and this one definitely fit the bill. my daughter got the personal kid's cheese pizza( actually just a 10 inch version if the regular) and it was the most she has eaten of any pizza in recent memory. Parent's take note this pizza is bargain at 5.99 and will easily feed 2 small children. They also mentioned that they do delivery in a limited area. score! I live right around the corner. Desserts were also good. The beer list needs serious work with only 3 options. that is my only complaint though. go out and support the little guy this is great pizza!

  5. I spent $50 bucks on a 12 inch japanese knife( don't know the brand because there wasn't any english anywhere on its package). point is it will go straight through a pork spine and come back to a perfect edge with 2 minutes on a stone. No nicks. More importantly I am not constantly worried about damaging it like I would be if I spent hundreds of dollars. I do have a custom boning knife and a couple knives around $200, but unless you need them for a specialized purpose, fancy knives are purely asthetic. I agree with the post above - investing in good stones and learning to use them is far more important.
  6. Still in need of a good cook or two so send me a message if you are interested in working with local product and fresh ingredients. Nate Waugaman
  7. Correction, the grandson came in with Carl to inform Patrick that the restaurant was closing, then proceeded to sit down and the two of them ordered dinner. Further insult to injury, while I was in Patrick's office learning the news, the two of them were already going through my office next door. I then had to plead with them not to go through the kitchen when Carl asked me if I would take his grandson down and show him what products he had to work with. I hadn't even had a chance to tell the staff, so I told them that I would not, and out of respect for the hard work that my staff was still doing they would need to come back in a few days, after we had a chance to tell everyone. So, rushing to his grandfathers aid, is a far cry from how things went down.
  8. It is a great shame and breaks my heart. If anyone has jobs for my staff let me know and I can send them your way. And Jeff, my charcuterie is not for sale yet. But nice try, I hope you had a great time last night. We sure did.
