  1. Yay! I'm moving to Fairfax City in a few months and am eager to try it. I wish she offered take-out muffins and bars and stuff, but in Fairfax City anything is better than nothing.
  2. Beware the Old Town location - last time I went, they were using ingredients that were clearly old. Also, the cheesecake we got for dessert tasted strongly of onions, like it'd be sitting next ot a bunch of them in a refrigerator or such for a LONG time. My favorite Hard Times (food-quality-wise) has always been the College Park, MD one. Of course, the last time I ate there was back in '07...
  3. I'm excited, since I'm something of an Fairfax City cheerleader. I've only been able to find a few reviews online, but they're all raves. I tried Sweet Life (the former occupant of the historic Moore House) once for dinner and it was sorta 'meh'/hit-or-miss, so I'm not surprised they didn't make it. Choices by Shawn seems to focus a lot on gluten-free baked goods, and they even have a few vegan offerings. The web site is here. Has anyone tried this place? Any thoughts?
  4. Ravi Kabobs I and II (in Arlington) have received rave reviews (including here), but I can't really find much online about their newer location in Springfield. Anyone tried it (or know anything about it)? TIA!
  5. Hi! Could anyone tell me where O&CO products can be purchased in D.C.? Last time I was in Chicago (where I'm surprised they haven't opened a boutique yet), the late, great State Street Marshall Field & Co. carried them, as well as Fox & Obel. If you'd like to recommend good olive oils that *can* be had in DC, that's fine, too (I may give them a try), but I'm looking specifically for O&CO products (long story). Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance! The company's web site (no, I'm not a shill, obviously) is at http://www.oliviersandco.com/FO/.
  6. Hello! I live in the Huntington neighborhood in what I affectionately call "Faux Alexandria" (an unincorporated chunk of Fairfax Co. south of Alexandria City). I'm here primarily to read about and discuss the D.C.'s VA suburbs' sometimes surprisingly good, sometimes surprisingly bad, and sometimes surprisingly scarce eateries - particularly the area's many "ethnic" restaurants. I'm especially interested in places that either offer carry-out lunches or whose staff won't treat you oddly if you choose to lunch there alone, since my husband, my only potential dining partner, really, doesn't eat lunch and has a very restricted diet at dinner. (Yes, I realize more than you could ever know how weird this is.) My name has a long, boring story behind it. Once I feel I've contributed enough to the forums so that anyone would care to hear it, I may share. Thanks for reading, and it's great to be here! I can't wait to begin lurking (and maybe posting a bit here and there).
