  1. We really enjoyed the Sunday brunch and were sad to see it mostly empty while we enjoyed our meal. My wife had the Ibarra Masa pancakes and I had the Huevos Sincronizadas. I requested a side of refried beans instead of potatoes but they only had black beans. This was unfortunate because the potatoes ended up being rubbery flavorless potato nubs. The dish itself was fantastic, with excellent layers of fluffy eggs and cheese and a great mole poblano, but both dishes sat in our stomach unlike anything I've ever eaten before. After 9 hours, most of which were spent doing yardwork, we still felt like we had cinder blocks in our stomach. I recommend the place but try to reign in your gusto if you're typically a plate-cleaner like I am.
  2. I'm not sure what that was about. I always thought those boards were like a small dinner group, not some Chowhound affiliated Nazi regime. Kidding of course, but yeah I guess I just won't post on there until I know where I want to eat! I attended the most recent Charm City Hounds outting to Hunan Taste. It was interesting that's for sure, but I want to try something I haven't had. I've narrowed down my choices. I think if we can find some dining partners then I want to try either dim sum at Asian Court or the Korean BBQ at Shin Chon. If it's just going to be the two of us we might try Pho Nam or Pho Saigon as I've heard so much about pho but have yet to try it. The closest thing I've had is the beef noodle soup at Happy Beef Noodle House in Flushing, NY.
  3. My best friend became a father Tuesday and we're going out to visit him (he lives in Frederick and we're coming from Abingdon) Sunday. My wife and I wanted to take this opportunity to try a restaurant in the Catonsville/Ellicott City/Columbia area. We were interested in possibly brunch/lunch or dim sum on the way out or dinner on the way back. More specifically we want something we can't get in our area like good Korean or pho or dim sum or... anything ethnic basically. Mexican, Indian, Thai... We love it all. We're more interested in experiencing something great and unique to the area. We're also looking for dining companions so we can try more food! Please respond with any recommendations and any/all are welcome if you want to join us! Thanks, Kyle
  4. Welp, now we're going to see Cake perform at Artscape first. So the task at hand is finding a good restaurant within walking distance of wherever they'll be playing...
  5. We're going out for my birthday on Saturday and I'm looking for some recommendations. I think I want to try a restaurant with an eclectic/fusion style menu preferably with outdoor/rooftop seating and a good selection of specialty drinks and beers on tap. The price isn't too much of an issue but I think over $25 an entree might be pushing it. Thanks for any suggestions!
  6. Ack, no LARPing. I'm not quite *that* dorky. Role Model was pretty great though.
  7. Had Stone Imperial Russian Stout at Max's on Broadway and I think it was probably one of the best stouts I've ever had, although I most certainly do not consider myself a connoisseur of stout beer. It was not nearly as heavy as the website makes it out to be, it was one of the few stouts I've had that I could see having more than one and not end up feeling like I just eaten an entire steak dinner. I also tried Southern Tier Mokah and it was a bit too sweet for me. I would've like a milk chaser or a hot fudge brownie a la mode to go along with it. I finished it, but it took a little effort.
  8. We hit Matthew's on a mini pizza tour of Baltimore and were all unimpressed. This was the first stop with BOP and Joe Squared following and the pizza got progressively better with JS being the best. I have a hard time coping with how Matthew's came to be on so many favorite lists. I guess this just isn't my style of pie. We ordered a half two cheese with pepperoni and half margherita. The two cheese was alright, I think I would've preferred the traditional pie which the waitress recommended, since I really liked the tang of the reggianito. The margherita was the table favorite and it was good, but nothing to write home about. I honestly thought so myself while sitting there that if I closed my eyes I could've been eating the same pizza at Sbarro. I did like the crust however, it was nearly as heavy as I feared, it was light with a nice crisp edge.
  9. I just went here for the first time on a mini pizza tour of Baltimore. This was our last stop after hitting Matthew's and BOP. This was definitely the best. We had a half quattro fromaggio with mozzarella, asiago, parmigiano, and romano and half barbecue chicken. The asiago was sublime and we all loved the combination of cheeses. The barbecue chicken side was inspiring and it was the first time I had had avocado and corn on a pizza and it worked beautifully. The other diners would've liked more avocado but I think it was just the right amount as too much may have overpowered the pizza. The crust was thin but not the razor sharp that usually agitates my lips so this was a great reprieve from the norm. Also worth mentioning, our waitress was awesome, very friendly and goofy and helpful.
  10. After hitting up the MD Renn Faire last year, the girl and I decided to spend the remainder of the day in Annapolis, taking in the beautiful sights. This is where we stopped to eat and I second the bbq duck taco, it was terrific. As a guy who loves barbecue, duck, and tacos this dish felt like it was especially concocted solely for my own personal consumption. I have no idea what my main course was, and I don't care.
  11. Well how do I start this...? I've lived in Harford County all of my life, not including my tenure at UMD. I've only become really into food and cooking in the last few years. Growing up my mom was a working woman so our nightly dinners were usually out of a box and/or can. Frankly cooking scared the pants off of me at first, but over many months of trial and error I came to love it. I purchased a Weber Smoky Mountain Cooker last summer and am now an avid backyard smoke barbecuer. I honestly want to open my own restaurant (specializing in barbecue, chili, wings, and tacos) in 15-20 years (hey, at least I'm realistic). I even have a menu written up that I update frequently and a name picked out. Yeah, it'll probably never happen, but hey, right now it serves as motivation for me to really explore my culinary point of view (I sound like the judges on the Next Food Network Star...) and really hammer out my recipes. Otherwise I'm pretty much your typical foodie. I research where I eat entirely too much, spend too much time reading food blogs, and take pictures of almost everything I cook and eat out. Some of my favorite foods are fish tacos, wings, sushi, and falafel. My favorite sandwich in the world is Tony Luke's Roast Pork Italian. The best plate of food I've ever eaten was eggs benedict over spicy chicken and sweet potato hash with green chili hollandaise at Mesa Grill in Manhattan. My favorite restaurant in Baltimore is Pazo, although I don't really get to eat out in the city as much as I'd like mainly due to monetary concerns. And downtown isn't exactly around the corner from Abingdon. I'm a very atypical guy otherwise. I'm heavily addicted to role-playing games of every sort. I play D&D every week with a great group in the heart of Little Italy. I also have a weapons collection. Swords, daggers, an axe, a spear, and other random single handed bladed things. I'm also into bead-spriting. Don't hesitate to google any of these things in case you aren't "in the know". I like camping, hiking, and the outdoors in general. Winter's Run is in my backyard and Harford Glen is just a short 10 minute walk from my back door. I'm pretty sure this is more than any sane person would want to know... so, I guess I'll stop there. Thanks for having me. If there are any other like-minded foodies around Bel Air, give me a shout, I'm always looking for a friend to grab a bite with, since my interests baffle most normal people.
