Liquid Liquidation Is Back!  (that's for the old school)

Corduroy quietly reopened for takeout last week.  This is more than a pivot, it's a brand new business with a lot of resources not going to use.    I have a lot of beer, wine and spirits on the shelf that might as well find a good home.  We have takeout, a virtual farmers market and super discounted adult beverages. You can pick up dinner, produce and cheap drinks in one stop curbside pick-up.  All alcohol purchases must be made with the purchase of a prepared food item.  Here is the To Go wine list that will be on line tomorrow.  Ordering is online through Tock right now which is still adapting to this.  Email corduroydc@mindspring.com for details.

I may have to break the SAP order and take advantage of this Liquid Liquidation sale!

  2. #repost Corduroy/Baby wale

I spent the afternoon painting these signs for Corduroy and Baby Wale. "Virtual farmers' market" is a way for us to make produce available from small local farms that are not set up to sell to large grocery stores (they only sell to restaurants). Farmers had already planted crops when the virus hit, and the produce will be wasted if we don't use/sell through restaurants. People can order produce on Tock and pick them up curbside. Not the cheapest, but super fresh, sustainable, organic, and exclusive. We have a very small selection at the moment, but it will grow if the demand is there.

We also have beer, wine, and liquor. We are liquidating our inventory! Trying to be the best prices (and best selections) in town.

Our fellow whisk(e)y lovers — the demand has been so great, our website crashed, our phone lines were busy, we are so appreciative for all the interest and support!
    .
Please visit the link here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/n8iohy728n5yy13/AADRApIx13CEfCwAs2MtOj-ma?dl=0. You will find the Whisk(e)y by the ounce menu — these prices do not NOT include discounts, so please take 50% off whiskeys $100+ per ounce, and 20% off all others. You’ll also find cocktails to-go, food and more.
    .
These are subject to availability. If you’d like to place phone orders to-go, our lines will be open tomorrow (3/20) at 12:30. Our small team is trying to respond to everyone individually so thank you so much for your patience.
    .
We will be open tomorrow at 1pm, with guests’ and staff’s safety at top priority, so expect many precautions in place including limited entrance, safe distancing & quick to-go service.
    .
If you’re looking for anything specific, send us a DM or text our owner Bill personally (202-262-5637) and he will get back to everyone as soon as we can. We are overwhelmed by the support and hope that this will keep us and our staff here for decades to come. Thank you all. ❤️

Seems to me, it's a closed DC restaurant in Petworth trying to turn its wine inventory into cash. Legitimate under current temporary rules, but two big caveats. In the DC Covid Wine Guide, Seco Wine has listed its location as TBD. That's a big NoNo. Alcohol licenses attach to specific addresses. I also did a search of the DC license database for Seco Wine, and came up empty, but the database hasn't been updated since July 2019, so that could explain it, but the lack of specified location is still problematic.

Jack Rose, from what Im reading, has auctioned off their collection to come up with cash during their closing as well.

Laws were passed so mixed cocktails could be sold to create a semblance of revenue.

Desperate measures are being made to try to make money. Is it good? Is it legal? Will it pose problems down the line in relation to keeping their liquor license? I have no idea to all of the above.

I strongly advise people not to get sucked into this. This appears to be a marketing shtick for a "wine curating" company, and not people's private collections for sale; otherwise, they'd come right out and say what wines are for offer. Trust your local retailer, Katt!

Example: I called Doug Rosen at Arrowine a couple of days ago, and asked him to put me together a mixed case for $300-ish. He went above-and-beyond, and gave me 12 different wines that cost about $220, all of them very good (so far). I drove up, called, picked up the case outside, and left - easy as pie, and the wines are super-interesting (as long as the retailer is halfway decent, and knows the style of wines you enjoy, you'll be more than fine).

Perhaps “curated collections” is not the right wording for what is being offered.

Mix bottles? I pick, you buy? Whatever it may be, people want wine. Ill leave it up to the consumer to decide for themselves. I appreciate your heed of caution, like with everything, I am just offering suggestions.

Wed, Apr 15, 2020 will be the 15th anniversary of this community, and on that day it will switch to being a read-only document. I hope you've enjoyed participating here as much as I've enjoyed being your host, and I promise you that all of your posts will remain in perpetuum as a historical resource.

There is so much I want to say, but for now I will just say thank you for providing a platform for all of us to be able to have exchanges about everything ranging from where to eat , to the opportunities talk about just about anything. I am forever grateful.

  7. Thank you for chiming in @deangold . Lots  of people are asking whats the best way they can help?

Should I continue to buy carry out, but gift cards, or give directly to gofundme campaigns? I want to be able to do all of the above , and will do the best I can, & encourage everyone to help in any means they can afford to.

  8. Just my opinion, our purpose here is to help one another. There are countless ways we can do this. Whether it is donating to a gofundme campaign, putting out a call for volunteers, sending an SOS to which neighborhood restos could use help, helping a neighbor with a grocery drop, directing resources, Etc...

Someone could simply share & contribute to this post. That’s how we help.

  9. Lanc.care  was created by Pennant Creatives, a creative agency based in Lancaster, to offer a one stop site listing several local businesses and services being offered. The hosting is offered at no charge. This is a brilliant way to see how you may be able to support local businesses. Each day, the list grows longer.

We are all in to help,  together.

  10. I am fervent in doing anything I can to help. I wish there was more I can do.

Do whatever you can, within your means.

Purchase take out  DIRECTLY from businesses. Buy gift cards. Donate to relief funds. Buy whatever products they are offering. Offer cold hard cash if you can.

Share ways to contribute on on your social media channels. Spread the word.

This shut down, i fear will span much longer than anyone may anticipate, and unsure of what it will take to get back up to speed.

Harmony can be found in Middletown, Pa.  This spot was recommended highly by someone I met at a folklore fair. We instantly bonded over our love of food. Stepping into this space in the sleepy town of Middletown surprised me in the best possible way. It by far is the best Chinese food I have had to date. Visit with an open mind and hungry stomach. No where on the menu will you find General Tso's or egg drop soup. This is Chinese provincial cuisine. You will be feasting on a taste of X'ian.
