  1. Hello Everyone, I spoke with Calendar Girl and got permission to post some information about a great food and wine event that is being held next week. The event will raise money to support the program work of two nonprofits in DC that are run for women by women. What makes the event unique is that it's a professional pastry chef competition for women that will be judged by women and it includes a tasting of wines paired with the chocolates. I know that this is short notice, but it's for a good cause and thought you all might be interested. So here is the skinny: A Night O' Chocolate Are you a chocoholic in search of a fix? If so, join IWDC and WREI for their Night O' Chocolate fundraiser on April 26, 2011 from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. You'll get to taste decadent desserts made by some of DC's rising women pastry chefs and help a good cause--the event is a fundraiser designed to support programs for women around the world. Hosted by Honorary Chair Jaime Leeds, Chef/Owner of Hanks and Hanks Oyster Bar, the evening includes free tastings of decadent chocolate desserts, a chocolate fountain, and award-winning wines from Fabbioli Cellars of Leesburg. Night O' Chocolate is being held in the Samuel Gompers Room of AFL-CIO at 815 16th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20006 and judging the event that evening are Ris Lacoste, of the West Ends celebrated Ris restaurant and Dara Bunjon, food media maven of Dara Does It. Tickets are $50 per person in advance and $75 per person at the door. To purchase tickets via PayPal go here In addition, anyone under 30 gets in for the special price of $30 per person in advance here Thanks for your help and hope to see you there. 2. Hello everyone, this is my first post and introduction. My name is Summer, I'm a trained chef/pastry, food and wine educator, and food, wine, culture, travel writer. I ghost write books for others, but my latest book is Join Us At the Embassy, a cultural guide and culinary travelogue that features food/wine/culture/travel from ten countries as seen through the eyes of their ambassadors here in DC. Hope to meet some fellow foodies and wine lovers.
  3. Hello Chad, Love your blog, do you ever have guest bloggers or are you looking for someone to blog regularly on food, wine, culture? I am a local food and wine writer and would love to do something with your publication. I can be reached at foodandwinediva@usa.net or by phone at 202-248-9070 Thanks, Talk to you soon. Summer Whitford
  4. Hello John, I was excited to see your wine and culture series at the Roof Terrace Restaurant. I am a local chef and food and wine writer and I have a book, JOIN US AT THE EMBASSY, that is about food, drink, and culture from 10 countries, 7 of which are wine countries. I have been teaching about food, wine, and culture for about 15 years and was wondering if you would be interested in doing a program together where I could sign books? FYI, the wine countries in my book include Austria, Chile, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, and Portugal. Sound like fun? Give me a call at 202-248-9070 or by email at foodandwinediva@usa.net. Thanks and hope to speak with you soon.
  5. Hello Fellow Food and Wine Lovers, My name is Summer Whitford, better known as the Food and Wine Diva. I live in Gaithersburg, MD but my work often takes me into DC. I am a trained chef/pastry chef and writer and live with my husband Mark, a trained chef and now master renovator and carpenter, and my 22-year old, talkative kitty named Maeve. In the interest of full disclosure, I consult, write, and teach about food, wine, culture, and travel and market and promote wine, beer, and spirits for wineries, wholesalers, and importers. My blog is Delicious Prose where I serve up small servings of life's pleasures. My motto is "Dine Well. Live Fully. Travel Often." and I always enjoy meeting other people who are nuts about food and wine. I can't believe that it has taken me this long to join and I am looking forward to keeping up with what's going on in our area. As they say in Finland, "Kippis!" or Cheers! Summer
