  1. nostalgia factor is high for me on this one. ironic that Yo! opens quickly and with little fanfare, while the much-publicized Wagamama still hasn't opened its doors in DC (I think not, right?)
  2. My chiropractor is in this area, and I was in the mood for Korean food, so I gave it a try. I had a lovely lunch, although service was slowwww (particularly at check time). Appetizer: the small (5 pieces) of friend dumplings. Meh. Not bad, but not great. Should have saved my appetite for more panchan (had about 5 different ones, kimchi, spicy cucumber, radish, bean sprout, and a homegrown green veggie w/ garlic. all good, but I found it odd that they served it at the same time as my main course) Main: I forget what the proper name of this dish was, but it was spicy chicken served on a hot plate with some veggies, with rice on the side (so, not a bi bim bap). perfectly spiced, great flavor, slightly oversauced and soggy, but that was forgivable given the great flavors. verdict: I would (and will) go back when I am in the area, but probably not worth going miles out of your way for if you have decent korean options that are closer.
  3. Its not in Don's MD dining guide, so I figured I'd ask about restaurants in Ocean City. Been coming here every summer for more than 5 years now, but wondering if there are any hidden treasures to try for an upcoming date night with my wife. We stay on the Ocean side around 125th street, but anywhere in the area is fair game. As of now, the plan is Liquid Assets, but open to all suggestions for places that might be better. Thanks in advance.
  4. I work in the area, and have been to Il Porto about half-a-dozen times for lunch. On my last visit, I ordered the Chicken Parmigiana sandwich, and was *horrified* to discover that they added mayo to the sandwhich. No lie. Who does this??? Their "italian cooking" license should be revoked!!!
  5. A long time ago, I thought the Q was the level of Rocklands. Even though I haven't been in years, I am sad to see this place go. Hill Country must have brought about the Q's swift demise.
  6. I remember when I was a wee lad in school, thinking Papa-Razi was good. In years later, I went across the street to Filomena, and felt quite silly for my initial thoughts of the PapaRaz.
  7. At the risk of embarrassing myself and destroying any sliver of credibility I have (or hope to have) here, breakfast at McDonalds is, ahem, not bad. There is something magical about the Egg McMuffin, the bacon, egg & cheese biscuit is darn good, and the hotcakes are also quite edible. (ducks for cover)
  8. this is sad news... i used to work in the area, and current had surprisingly good sushi and robata, with some a great happy hour menu... an underrated gem IMO
  9. I tried this place the other day after reading the reviews here. Despite the decor of what looks like a former Starbucks, I really enjoyed my meal. The Lamb Burger was delightful, although the Red Curry Mac and Cheese was disappointing (sounds good in theory, but trust me, avoid it). The Bengali deserts were really interesting as well, can't say I have ever tried that before. Also, the hidden gem is the loose leaf tea selection. About 30-40 varieties, and they made me a lovely Organic Genmaicha iced tea. For only $2.50 for a large.
  10. ktmoomau, have u tried Asian Bistro further up on King? Superior to both Red Curry and Thai Old Town (RIP, but what a dingy place that was).
  11. they do have wraps... the chicken breast wrap with chili jam and yogurt is my go-to when I am at Nandos. delicious.
  12. I've known about this for a few weeks, but the signs are now up on the storefront: Nando's is coming to King Street in Old Town, Alexandria, in the space formerly occupied by Popeye's (right off Washington St.). Oh, happy day.
  13. Hi everyone, I am heading to Marcel's for the first time this weekend to celebrate my birthday. We are most likely going to have the 3-course pre-theater menu. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!
  14. Chef Donna, your promotion has led me to come out of my longtime status as a passive (yet daily) observer of this wonderful forum and to join and participate. I had the pleasure of speaking to your lovely wife when I called for reservations yesterday (Wed.) and my wife and I are greatly looking forward to a special dinner Saturday night. Congrats on the opening and we are looking forward to joining you this weekend. To everyone else in this thread and throughout the site, thank you for keeping me and others apprised of the dining scene here in the DC area and I look forward to contributing to this community. - Don
