  1. Ate here twice over the last week while in town visiting family. Delicious food! Order the Stir fried string beans with 'ya-cai'. Flounder with pickled cabbage and Fish with ginger and scallions were both very good and the fish fresh. General Guans Chicken also good. The chicken in this dish is not breaded ala General Gaos. Dan Dan Noodles were tasty. PIckled fresh cucumber very good as well and a good accompaniment to hot dishes. The only dish that I would not order again was lotus root salad. Had not had lotus root before and gave it a try but, for me, it was too bland and starchy.
  2. Glad to know that managment at Cava reads these posts. I first went to Cava Rockville several years ago and recall each dish had a high 'yum' factor. Was in town again last week and was dissappointed. On the Cava Mixed Grill plate the chicken was quite dry although the other meats were well done and tasty. Zucchini and eggplant dish was very bland as was the beet and feta dish. Grilled octopus was good. I know that it is not unusual for restaurants to have off nights and hope that this was what occured.
  3. I know that making a critque based on one experience is risky so take this as one person's experience on one day. Went to Black's on a Sunday. Really did not think that the food was worth the money. Three of us ate, had two drinks each and one dessert for about $205. Pre-dinner drinks were not generous. I had a flounder fillet on a bed of barley with a few slices of summer squash and feta thrown in. The fish was cooked perfectly but seriously this is not difficult for someone who cooks alot and the accompaniment was unimaginative. A companion had scallops and found them less than sweet and tasty. Not somewhere I'll go again.
  4. Visited family in Rockville last week and of course headed to as many restaurants as possible. Againn: Very good hamburger, very good old-fashions that tasted more like Manhattans but I didn't care, creamy, potted pork came with delicious onion chutney but I still would have preferred the pork to have been tastier. Bangers and mash were judged fair and cheddar soup too salty. La Canela: Tender calamari appetizer with good tartar sauce and sliced red onions, Mixto was very spicy hot, lamb shoulder was falling off the bone tender and its sauce was very tasty and complex, two different Piscos were great. Lebanese Taverna: Will not return, chicken was dry and tough, baklava small and dry. Bob's Noodles: Great as usual. Taiwanese Hamburger came in a sweet bun and filling was sweet and tasty. Ginger chicken casserole very good as was whatever noodle dish I chose. Oyster appetizer is a stand by order. In the past, I've had their flounder steaks---very fresh, cooked perfectly, yummy sauce.
  5. Have to say that I was very disappointed in the kabobs when I went over the summer. While the Cornish hen was tasty, the other kabobs were dry and, I'm pretty sure, were baked not grilled. Also more sauce is needed.
  6. Just a new comment extolling the virtues of this restaurant. This is probably going to be my default restaurant whenever I am in Rockville. I've had the fried oyster and fried calamari appetizers and both were very good. The rice sausage appetizers is bland and doughy for my taste and needed alot of jazzing up. Taiwanese Stir-Fried Noodles also very good. The Sizzling Flounder Steak with Sweet and Sour Sauce had some of the freshest fish I've ever had (please don't someone tell me it's frozen). Really delicious. On other occasions have had some of the dishes and found them very good as well. Got to try the Taiwanese Hamburgers next time.
  7. Hello, I am new to this forum and since I have to post first before I can search, etc., I thought that I'd give a review of two restaurants that I went to this summer while in Rockville. I and my wife are from Maine but come down to Rockville 3-4 times a year to stay with a relative and enjoy the opportunity to go to places that we just don't have in Maine although there are some good places up here also. The first restaurant is Yekta Kabobi just off the Pike in Rockville. Found the steak kabobs dry and not flavorful. The ground meat and Game Hen Kabobs were tastier but all of them needed a sauce. If there was one on the menu to accompany the kabobs, I missed it and it wasn't offered. Also, I think that the meat was all baked and not grilled as there was no charring. Would not return here but had fun going next door to the Yekta grocery then to a small Russian store filled with Russian beers, strudel and Russian canned goods. The other place that I went was 8407 Kitchen Bar in Silver Spring. The first ginger-lime martini I had was delicious but the second too sweet. Oysters with ginger creme fraiche were plump and tender, summer sausage light and tasty, the crab cake was bland and needed perhaps the ginger creme fraiche to liven it up. Don't feel that the price is worth a return. Will be coming down for a week over Xmas and hope to hit several more places. Look forward now to searching Don's site.
