  1. I was at opening day and was disappointed with some of the food changes. First off, on the upper level behind the scoreboard, a lot of new places were serving out of trailers while renovations were still taking place on the physical spaces up there. Um what? Hello? You had all fall and winter to figure this out in time for Opening Day! What happened? Also, Teddy's BBQ has been replaced by an "Extreme Dog" place. Not sure what they serve, but the Teddy's Rough Rider sandwich will be missed. In some much better new though, one of my favorite food trucks, District Taco (Osiris is the man!) won a coveted spot outside the stadium: http://foodtruckfiesta.com/district-taco-nationals-ballpark/
  2. Pete's is slightly pricier than what I like to pay for pizza but since I don't get pizza that often I think it's worth it. I'm a big fan of the caramelized onions & peppers slice. DC continues to have a total lack of good pizza, so for me Pete's still stands out as better than the rest.
  3. Just an FYI, Bubby's is celebrating its one-month anniversary with a different special each day this week: Monday: 1/4 pound Kosher hot dog with sauerkraut, French Fries and a soda $ 3.95 Tuesday: Potato Knish for $ 1.95 with any sandwich purchase. Wednesday: Bubby's Best Pastrami Reuben with side dish for $ 9.95 Thursday: Open face Hot Roast Turkey with gravy, cranberry sauce, challah stuffing and mashed potatoes for 9.95. Friday: Bubby does a Duo - Hot corned beef and Pastrami on grilled rye, open face, with sauerkraut, topped with melted Swiss cheese and Russian Dressing, served with french fries 9.95
  4. To answer the mustard question, Bubby's has National Deli brand mustard on all the tables.

I guess I'll join all the cool kids and mention my site in a thread in this forum. I call So Good "An absurd look at the world of food." Basically I want So Good to be "food as pop culture." We do weekly "Would You Rather?" debates as well as weekly "Eating Styles" posts, and we even have our own weekly comic strip, John Q. Foodblogger. We also got a lot of attention for our Meat Madness and Fast Food Bracket tournaments. I also used to work in social media marketing, so I sometimes do some in-depth analysis or commentary on a social media marketing campaign/blunder. Here's a snippet from the About page on my site:
  6. I finally had a chance to check out PS7's a couple weeks ago for a very late lunch (actually ended up eating off the bar happy hour menu since we got there a little before 4 pm). Overall I was pretty happy. Our goat cheese flatbread was very good, as was the Primanti Bros style sandwich. The salami jalapeno peppers were a little weird (a black bread crumb coating?) but tasted pretty good. Pretty good deals on HH drinks as well, either cheap commercial beers or reasonably priced signature cocktails or punch.
  7. A very good question indeed. We use the best brands we have available for different meats which can vary from product to product, but includes Hebrew National and National Deli products. All our meat products are sourced from NY and NJ. We don't do the pastrami curing in-house, but the other meats we use, from brisket to corned beef to turkey we receive fresh and prepare and cook it in-house. I'm not the chef of course, but happy to find out the answer to any questions I don't already know the answer to!
  8. Hey all - wanted to give you a little more info on Bubby's. I'm actually an investor and part-owner of the restaurant, although not involved in any of the day-to-day operations. For those who don't know me (I only recently joined Don Rockwell), I have written the food/humor blog So Good - http://www.sogoodblog.com for the last 3 1/2 years and have lived in DC for 6 1/2 years. . Bubby's is a sit-down restaurant (take out available) open 7 days a week, for both lunch and dinner. We hope to add weekend brunch in the next month or so, and are working on a liquor license. Our chef, Frank Petrello is outstanding, and has run kitchens at some great restaurants before, most recently working at Gadsby's in Old Town. More info here: Website: http://bubbysnydeli.com Twitter: http://twitter.com/bubbysnydeli Facebook: http://facebook.com/bubbysnydeli I got to nibble on a few things last week while our chef was plating, tasting and testing dishes, but Saturday was my first chance to sit down for a full meal. Now obviously I'm not 100% impartial, but my overall thoughts and those of the 3 friends with me was that the food was excellent. I can't say enough good things about the stuffed cabbage, either as an entree or appetizer. Pigs in a blanket are great, corned beef and pastrami both fantastic, and our chef seems to have a way with sauces - gravy on my friends brisket and turkey sandwiches were both very tasty, dipping sauce for pigs in a blanket was a sweetish-tomato based sauce with a slow spice at the end and the Russian dressing, which we make in-house, was creamier and lighter in color than the usual bright orange junk you see at far too many places. All our dishes are made fresh in-house, no pre-made potato salad or coleslaw etc. and we cook all our own meats. I'll also mention that if you need wheelchair accessibility, there is an elevator to the left of our main entrance that will take you up to the dining room floor. I've only seen one blogger put up an actual review so far, so you can get more thoughts on specific dishes from that: http://www.dmvdining.com/2011/02/bubbys-new-york-deli-ups-the-ante-in-bethesda-deli-scene/ Anyways, hope those who live or work in or near Bethesda, (or those that just want to make the journey) will have a chance to try it out soon. Please let me/us know what you think by posting your thoughts here afterward.
  9. This place is about 5 blocks from my apartment, and I've been drooling over it since the first time I had it. I have a class two blocks away on Tuesday nights, and my new Tuesday night routine involves getting a sandwich on the walk home every week. Also ordered delivery a couple times. I've now tried the meatball, steak and cheese, BBQ pork, chicken salad, Cubano and Chivito. The Chivito is great, but they all are - I don't see the point in spending the extra $3.50. The pulled pork has a pineapple BBQ that just works, and its topped with their lemon grass coleslaw. The meatballs are fantastic, made with black angus and chorizo. Steak was even better. Chicken salad was quite good, if not as amazing as the other sandwiches. Cubano is my favorite, had it a few times now. Sandwich rankings so far: 1. Cubano 2. Steak and cheese 3. Meatball 4. Chivito (only lower because of extra price) 5. BBQ pork 6. Chicken Salad I'll have to try the tuna, as I've heard a lot of people raving about it. Oh, and I should add that while the fries are pretty solid, opt to pay the extra $.50 or $1 to try some of the other sides. The sweet potato fries are great and have a nice dusting of cinnamon sugar, coleslaw an russian salad are also good. DC sorely needed a good sandwich place, and I can't say enough good things about Fast Gourmet.
  10. Hi all, I'm Jon. I've read the site occasionally for the past couple years. I live in Colombia Heights and love eating out and trying new places. I write the food blog http://www.sogoodblog.com which focuses on food marketing and food as pop culture. I launched the site in 2007, and have been eating a swath through DC since 2004, so there is really no reason I wasn't on Don Rockwell years ago. This week I vowed to finally join this site and Yelp, so here I am!
