  1. I like their pizzas with fresh mozzarella. They tend to be a little heavy handed with the sauce but are always accommodating when I remember to ask for light sauce.
  2. I love the red beans & rice. I also like the fried crawfish when they have them. My local popeye's does not seem to have biscuits as good as the ones I had years ago in Texas... not sure if they changed the recipe or its just me.
  3. From OpenTable - Business Casual From khakis, collars and button-downs to suits, separates and dresses, business casual refers to the attire of the lunching professional. Men should not wear open-toed shoes or tank tops, and regardless of gender, athletic shoes, T-shirts, flip-flops and shorts are definite no-no's. Looks like Jeans are in a grey area... not specifically ruled out but I would think need to be nice jeans with a dressier top. Wikipedia, says pressed jeans okay if paired with a jacket.
  4. I was also there on Saturday, but did not have the same experience. I found many of the dishes served at too cool of a temperature. The dishes were works of art from a presentation perspective. The wines by the glass were nicely balanced, a decent selection and generous pours. Normally the works of art and the mixtures of textures and would leave me wowed, but I was a little cool to the whole experience. It just didn't seem to justify the prices. The Tuna (my favorite dish of the night) with the olive caviar and pickled (apple or pear). Maybe I should have gotten the Salmon instead of the Lamb. The lamb was cooked to specs (medium rare or a little more on the rare side), but the mole was a not a spicy as I would have thought. The mint were technically impressive little droplettes, but didn't have as much flavor as I would hope. The passion or sensory or something like that dessert was disappointing not enough depth of favors.. only the herb sorbet was really tasty, the remaining was bland.
  5. With the savored model they are going for non-peak times, so I would think filling up a table is better than no table. But I would be interested in the analysis from other perspective. I like eating at the bar of a restaurant that is not too crowded. As a solo diner at a upscale restauarant, if I am eating at a table I do feel I have to order complete dinners and tip well but not double. Compared to when dining with someone else when I would more often split an appetizers and a dessert. As a solo diner I don't think it requires as much effort as a 2-top (but maybe). At the bar I don't feel as much need to order as much or move up the low end of the tip range. In Europe a lot of hotels do offer single occupiers a lower rate (even if they don't have special single rooms).
  6. Another request for Savored solo diner support. The restaurants listed that even a solo diner will spend $75-$100. Maybe they could make the $10 NR for solo diners so they are sure to get their fee.
  7. I am also disappointed Savored didn't support solo diners. I thought the concept was good and the restaurants are easily ones where the $10 fee still saves money. Savored support gave me a different answer saying it was the restaurants that set the minimum (but I am not sure that is true).. When dining alone, when opentable does not allow booking, I usually call the restaurant directly (only once in NYC have I been turned down). The other day I made an open table reservation for 2 and in the comments said the reservation was only for one and requested they call my cell phone if it was an issue. The restaurant didn't have an issue. I might try the same with Savored special requests feature. If anyone else has luck or not... I would be interested to read more.
  8. AGAINN $50 for $25 http://www.livingsocial.com/cities/1/deals/194654-50-to-spend-on-food-and-drink
  9. Uncle Julio's is the best Mexican food I have found in NoVa. Very good Chips & Salsa, and fresh tortillas. The pork ribs and shrimp brochette are pretty good. The fish specials range from really good to bad. I just wish there was a Pappa's restaurant. When I was in Texas over the holiday, I found the food much tastier at Pappas (especially the Shrimp Brochette).
  10. I think Passionfish did a very nice job of of restaurant week. All of their main dishes except 2 were made available to restaurant week patrons . There was a selection of close to 10 appetizers and a few desserts. I find that very flexible and nice. I have had the corn and crab chowder both during restaurant week and not. I didn't notice a difference. So the poster probably would not have liked it either way. The rock shrimp ravioli was excellent. There were a few small mis-steps that they may not make during the normal volume nights - I did find my eggplant side dish overcooked compared to other visits..so maybe they are doing more preprep of them to handle the increased volume. Also the apple crisp was okay but not great (but since I normally don't order dessert there - that might be a defiency always). In general for Reston Town Center skip restaurant desserts and go to Pitango...
  11. I tried Kaz for the first time last night. Most of the fish was excellent, particularily the scallop and big eye chu. Best sushi I have had in a long time. The only complaint I had was they were too heavy on the wasabi. I ended up taking so of it off, so I could enjoy the fish.
  12. Kinkead's is also good. One step saving idea is to take the shuttle that leaves goes back and forth between KC and the Foggy Bottom Metro.
  13. Hi, I'm MAJ. I've been living in NoVA for about 6 months and look forward to geting more into the NoVa dining scene. I miss the good Indian dining from London (my last home) and good Mexican food from California (my home before that). Starting to explore the Savadorian and Thai restaurants of this area.
