  1. Last night they had a valet stand working. Dining room is completely set up. Looks like they smartly added to the bar area
  2. Strolling through town on the way to Jaleo last night I came across this place called Proof. The text on the papered-up windows stated that it is a wine-centric restaurant. Anyone have any information on this place?
  3. Saw a "coming soon" sign for over by the TechWorld Bldg, facing 7th Street (btn I and Mass). Nothing on their web site about it yet. Anybody know anything about this UK chain?
  4. I'm starting a dedicated topic about Zaytinya because it doesn't appear to have one. It's on my mind right now, mostly because a friend is going there tonight and her pronunciation cracked me up. I have zero idea of I myself pronounce it right (Zay-TEE-nyah), however I am completely certain that she wasn't even close. The number of variations I see on the spelling of the name also astounds me. My most recent visit was two weeks ago for lunch. I find lunch to be a pleasant time to visit the place - less crowded, particularly in the bar area. That said, when my friend and I arrived and asked about a table for two, we received blank stares from the two hostesses (in spite of it being after 1 pm, and there being quite a few vacant two-tops scattered here and there). We took matters into our own hands and sat in the bar. Service was prompt (until it was check time) and the food was very, very tasty. Although...as I am sitting here typing, I realize that our carrot fritters never did arrive. Hmm. We had the stewed lamb with eggplant puree, asparagus, chicken with orzo and tomato sauce, and hummus. My new-to-town friend, originally from Wales by way of NYC, was suitably impressed, particularly when the bill amounted to about $30 with tip.
  5. Nice lunch today at http://pokepapa.com Much better than the Annandale version of Poke. Similar to the California places I wrote about...choice of rice (brown, while or black) and/or salad, plus scoops of fish (tofu and chicken also) and toppings. Big difference they had 3-4 varieties of salmon and Ahi already tossed with dressing. A Korean spiced version, basic sweet with green onions, and a siracha mayo mix...plus plain Ahi and Salmon, cooked scallops, some ceviche, etc. I had 3 scoops trying the Korean, basic, and siracha. This saves the step of tossing the fish with your choice of sauce...but having 3 different flavors confuses things inside the bowl. Lots of choices of toppings, including fake crab salad, seaweed, ginger, etc. The crunchy toppings are self service, after you pay. Overall, very good. Would be a great place to have your first Poke! I left very satisfied.
  6. Its been a long while Ive been eating here. Pizzas are always good with their medium crust. Pastas are changing almost every week. Today I tried the butternut squash filled ravioli with sage and butter cream sauce. I believe this is the best squash ravioli Ive had so far. texture of the ravioli is perfect and squash doesnt taste sweet and rich , just perfect. This place is open since 2003 and and they have very friendly staff behind the bar. I urge everyone to try this squash ravioli.
  7. I stopped into the District Chophouse for a post-hockey beer this week, and I'm aghast that I'd never been there before. I didn't realize they brewed their own beer, and the menu looks to be good steakhouse fare at a much lower cost than most steakhouses. But all I had the chance to try was beer.* Who's been in to eat? I'm thinking of taking dad there next week when he's in town. Advisable? Recommendations? *The bourbon stout was very interesting, but two of us thought it got pretty tired and overwhelming about a half pint in. The ale was terrific, and there are a lot of other interesting brews I'm interested in trying.
