  1. I couldn't find a general thread on party planning, so I decided to start one. I saw some specific types of parties, but none fit the bill for this one, and I thought a general topic might get posts as many people here do a lot of general hosting. My specific quest right now: I am hosting a wine and cheese tasting by the Cheese Monster. I wanted to have some snacks to go with said tasting after the seated tasting/learning session that would go well with cheese and enhance the experience. But I didn't want things with more cheese, which rules out a lot of my go-to party snacks. I would prefer the items to be make ahead (although I can also pick up some things). Things I already have crackers, salami, spinach and artichoke dip. But I would like to make a few more substantial snacks.
  2. I ask our members to post copies of opening menus (which can often be downloaded in .pdf format, screen-shotted, or simply snapped with an iPhone) - this, for historical purposes. It can be a fascinating thing to watch the menus change, both in terms of price and format (imagine an opening menu from Komi - you would not recognize the restaurant, and it would be a valuable piece of history that is forever lost unless Johnny has one thrown into his desk drawer somewhere). I would *love* to have an opening menu from every single restaurant in the DC area - can you imagine how valuable that would be twenty years from now? Not "valuable" in terms of money; just in terms of history. Note that merely linking to the menu on the website is not enough - websites change constantly. The menus are obviously the restaurant's property, so I also ask our members not to do this without the restaurants' permission.
