  1. I've always known Washington-Liberty HS, in Arlington County (VA), as "Washington-Lee HS," but I drove by the other day, and saw this sign on the corner. After a quick internet search, I see that the Arlington Public Schools Board voted to rename the school in Jan, 2019, effective as of the 2019-2020 school year. Jan 10, 2019 - "Virginia High School To Be Renamed Washington-Liberty after Lee Controversy" by Gina Cook on nbcwashington.com I suspect that many of our members went here, as it's one of only three public high schools in Arlington County, VA (along with Wakefield
  2. I just started two new forums: Colleges and High Schools, which are only visible to members (just for a little extra member-privacy). I'm hopeful that this will bring our membership closer together through common life experiences. We can even start a "Military Brat" thread for those of you who were shuttled around during your youth. I went to Springbrook, in Silver Spring, MD - yep, I'm a native Washingtonian. Any other Blue Devils here?
  3. I just started two new forums: Colleges and High Schools, which are only visible to members (just for a little extra member-privacy). I'm hopeful that this will bring our membership closer together through common life experiences. I went to Clemson, because it was the only school I got into. But I liked it so much that I ended up staying for 5 1/2 years, for both undergraduate (Accounting) and graduate school (Computer Science). Any other Clemson Tigers here?
  4. I want to congratulate the University of Alabama and its fans for winning the Sugar Bowl game against Clemson last night. Clemson was driving, down 10-6 in the 3rd quarter, and then a weird, fluky interception occurred - then, everything went to hell in a hurry, as Alabama would score 14 points in 13 seconds. I'd love to say it was a close game up until that point, but it really wasn't: Alabama, and their fine sophomore quarterback, Jalen Hurts, was absolutely the better team last night, and deserved to win the game by any criterion. I've said almost all season long that Hunter Johnson sh
  5. Congratulations to the Marion Wildcats for winning their homecoming game this evening against Centralia, 49-46, scoring a touchdown with 18 seconds left in the game: The winning play is here (this is a 7MB file). I suspect Centralia had a *long* drive up I-57 heading home. The best-known athlete from Marion is Ray Fosse, the MLB all-star catcher whom Pete Rose took out with this play: Needless to say, the denizens of Marion, IL were delighted to host Rose in the Marion Penitentiary for five months for tax evasion.
  6. Hey, don't knock H.S. doubles. Although I played singles in my senior year, I wasn't #1 singles since our coach had recruited a sophomore who could kick my ass (still can, since he's still a teaching pro) & I knew I wasn't even top 10 in NYC singles. I had played doubles previously and had (in my Junior year) come in 2nd in the NYC "Mayor's Cup" H.S. Doubles Tournament (with my partner of course). At any rate, feeling the need for revenge, we teamed up again in my senior year and won the tournament. So, 47 years later I still have bragging rights to having once been the best H.S. doubl
